Not Only Profess...

It is common today for the denominations
to profess that salvation is by only faith in Christ
and then tell people to be saved
by faith plus something else,
usually repentance or baptism.
The result is that people also then
trust in their repentance or baptism
and then profess such to be faith alone anyway.
But that is not faith alone,
and will not save anyone
no matter how the denominations
or theologians try to explain it away.
Christ saved me by a sovereign move,
showing me exactly what gives salvation,
when no one else could ever reach me
in the darkness of the world of Mormonism.
What people profess,
that salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone,
they must actually have,
and those who try to add anything at all
to faith will not have salvation
no matter how saved they feel.
All trust must be on Christ alone,
and none at all in our own "righteousness".
Things to definitely be done, such as
repentance, baptism, endurance,
are to be done
but without trusting those for salvation.
The way of salvation as Christ showed Luther
to enable the Protestant Reformation,
not the broader theology of Luther
or other Reformers or denominations,
is the only way anyone is saved:

The moment Christ gives us faith
to stop trusting our "righteousness"
and start trusting him to be our Righteous Substitute
so he regards his righteousness and victory ours,
we have eternal life.
(Romans 4, Ephesians 2, Philippians 3, Colossians 1,
John 6, 1 Peter 1, Preface to Luther Latin Works)
