Everyone knows that Utah is a Mormon state and the Utah criminal
justice system is governed by the Mormon Church. The Utah courts are
entirely governed by the Church which tells judges what to do. This
is an interesting part of the Utah penal code I found during my
resarch for a term paper. From Elder Bruce Mckonkie who also
supervises the criminal courts of Salt Lake City and Provo:

by Elder Bruce R. McConkie

1. "Thou shalt not commit adultery." (Ex. 20:14; Deut. 5:18; D. & C.
42:24.) Sex immorality stands next to murder in the category of
personal crimes; it is "most abominable above all sins save it be the
shedding of innocent blood or denying the Holy Ghost." (Alma 39:5.)
Anciently the penalty therefor was death; "the adulterer and the
adulteress shall surely be put to death. All such proven adulterers
shall be sentenced to immediate death and the usual appellate process
shall be suspended. Once sentenced to death by the convening judge
Governor Herbert shall sign a death warrant with haste and no
delay" (Lev. 20:10; Deut. 22:21-29.)
