I had a former employee call me earlier today inquiring about a job, and at
the end of the conversation he gave me his phone number. I asked the former
employee if this was a new cell phone number and he told me yes this was his
"Obama phone." I asked him what an "Obama phone" was and he went on to say
that welfare recipients are now eligible to receive (1) a FREE new phone and
(2) approx 70 minutes of FREE minutes every month. I was a little skeptical
so I Googled it and low and behold he was telling the truth. TAX PAYER MONEY
IS BEING REDISTRIBUTED TO WELFARE RECIPIENTS FOR FREE CELL PHONES. This
program was started earlier this year.

Enough is enough, the ship is sinking and it's sinking fast. The very
foundations that this country was built on are being shaken. The age old
concepts of God, family, and hard work have flown out the window and are
being replaced with "Hope and Change" and "Change we can believe in." You

Just wait. The UN is working on making broadband internet access a
'basic human right' - and I can see the Obama crowd signing it. And
thus forcing the taxpayers to foot the bill...rather than the individual

Moron. What *I* wrote was about the UN. Not about the cellphone
program. There is nothing paranoid about the denigration of REAL
rights by BS like this. It's no wonder nobody of import takes the

If it's good policy, who cares if it's a "right"? Both rationales end

up taking you to the same place.

If a "right" is expressed in positive terms (that is, a right *to*
something), there's no problem making the policy argument for it,
either independently or in tandem with the "rights" rhetoric.

The same is not true if the "right" is expressed negatively, such as a
right *from* something. That's where the rights rhetoric takes
precedence over the policy argument.

Everybody knows that the UN is a debating society and public relations

forum. That being the case, the real issue is how, as a country, to
make use of this opportunity most effectively.

When UN action goes beyond debate, such as in the various peacekeeping
operations, what's really happening is that the UN is providing
political cover for a Metternichian "concert of nations" situation, in
which the Great Powers do what is in their collective self-interest.

If the Great Powers don't agree, the UN does nothing. It was intended
to be that way, and that's the way it has always worked (except for
the one time that the Russians blundered and boycotted a Security
Council session that ended up authorizing intervention in Korea).

It's a myth that a bunch of Third-World countries are ganging up and
calling the shots through the UN. At most, the UN provides a safety
valve for Third-World dictators so that they can post their dissidents
and untrustworthy relatives as diplomats to the UN (as a sort of
benign exile). This just gives *us* the opportunity to recruit the
dissidents as future agents.
