Denomination Diversion...

Most people that profess to be "Christian"
are in denominations that baptize infants.
Generally it is the older denominations that
do so, such as Catholic (Roman, Orthodox,
so forth), Lutheran, Anglican, Presbyterian,
and Methodist. Baptism is so glorified by
those except for some Presbyterian and
Methodist, as if essential to salvation, that
people end up trusting in baptism rather
than in Christ alone for salvation. Many of
those baptized as infants believe that they
have been saved by that, and so shut out
the real Gospel.

Those denominations that do not so glorify
baptism, even if not trusting in baptism for
salvation, generally trust in repentance for
salvation. So one way or the other, people
end up trusting in their own "righteousness"
rather than in Christ alone, though they and
their denominations nevertheless usually
profess trust in Christ alone anyway.

But despite that diversion by denominations,
Christ causes his remnant scattered among
the thousands of denominations to trust in
him alone for salvation by showing those by
his word that he is their Righteous Substitute
who took their place on the cross to be their
righteousness and salvation so that they
would have eternal life.
