It seems to becoming an accepted fad to allow theatrical performances
and drama to enter into the house of the Lord during the sacred hours
of the Sabbath and during the time of worship.
I recently started attending a different SDA church in my area. In
the year or so that I have been attending, I haven't noticed any signs
of drama or theatrics. Just a few weeks ago when it came time for the
sermon to be preached, a young man appeared on stage wearing a robe
and pretended to be Moses while he preached the gospel. In the church
I attended before here, there was a time that the pastor invited a man
to preach using only memorized passages of scripture from the writings
of Paul. He came onto the pulpit wearing articles of clothing that
was believed to be something similar to what Paul would wear. He
preached the writings of Paul as though he was Paul wearing Paul's
clothing.
Another trend that seems to run along with the group who bring drama
in the church is the use of joking and jesting in their preaching.
The use of joking and jesting in the pulpit as well as the use of
theatrics and drama are forbidden by God according to our own
messenger, Ellen G. White.

we live in a entertainment world. people like myself who are deep into
theology prefer the deep well researched educational teaching. most
people however may believe in God and His message but remain shallow.
the church being for all no matter at what level of growth they are
at, needs to meet everyone's needs. so yes it is appropriate to gear
different messages to different people so all may grow in the blessing
of our Lord. i love the SDA churches interpretation of the bible. what
drives me nuts is the amount of people who read e.. g. white as a
third gospel. she was only a woman who at times God truly did talk and
reveal things to, however many things she wrote were from her own mind
and understanding of an era long gone where she could never have
foretold the world we now live in. reading the writings of any of the
greats that were fundamental in the growth of the modern day church
from any domination will both inspire and teach us. we must learn the
great truths they have to teach us from the point of a great
christian, not a prophet whose every word is to be followed to the
letter. the prophets in the old testament may have spoken hundreds of
volumes of teaching that was needed in there day, but only what was
truly reveled from God has been passed on us today. just my thought
as an outsider who regularly attends the SDA church. chris |
