request for a list of healthcare industry executives who've been
meeting secretly in the White House with Obama staffers to discuss
healthcare changes being drafted there and in Congress.
According to the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington,

company officers, it received a letter from the Secret Service citing
an Obama Justice Department directive and denying access to visitor
logs under the "presidential communications privilege."

Sure. But we don't have a recent history of anything like that to
compare it to. Look at Iraq and Afghanistan: both of them put
together, totaled up over more than seven years, cost *less* than the

I sure hope so. Anyone who pays any attention at all gets that
the US has had socialized medicine for very many years and
what a disaster it is.
Military health care - Members of the US military plus some or
most veterans have had socialized medicine going back more than
half a century. Ask around among military and former military and
find out what they think. Both of my daughters are veterans and
they have little good to say about it. My experience when I was
enlisted was that it was an embarassment. The fact that there is
a federal law that military doctors can't be sued for malpractice
says much. The treatment of veterans whose crappy medical
care while they were in the military ended up with them out on
permanent disability says even more.
County hospital system - In the US if you don't have insurance
and you aren't able to pay full price out of your own pocket you
get sent to the local county hospital. On the one hand in the US
no one who has any choice in the matter gets their medical care
in the county hospital care system. On the other hand the care
available at a county hospital now is better than any care anywhere
in the world 50+ years ago. The gripping hand is if the US
switches to socialized medical all medical care will be like the
current county hospital system.
Enough people understand this that socialized medicine has
failed in Congress every time it's been proposed. Those who
favor it haven't thought through the conequences - The path to
hell is paved with good intentions and similar cliches. |

I didn't vote for the man, and he is turning out about as I expected. Had I
thought I had voted for change, I'd be severely pissed about now. Had I
voted for him as someone slightly more acceptable than McCain/Palin, I'd be
second guessing myself. I 'threw my vote away', knowing full well what it
was worth. |
