What's hard to understand is why a sober-minded state like Minnesota
puts in power people like Ventura and Franken. Anywho, this guy's a
one-termer. What a joke.

Not true. The max you can be fined for leaving the form blank, except
for the nose-count, is $100. Lying on a constitutionally authorized
question can get you a $500 dingy, and the fine for any intent to cause
an inaccurate count maxes out at $1000 and a year in the slammer.

Nobody has ever been fined or imprisoned for this, btw. Ever.

get my name (and how much I pay in property taxes, and the size of my

What was done in the past was that the long form questionaires were

I'm pretty sure that that's what will be done in 2010.

Getting a statistically valid picture of, say, how many television
sets are owned by households is extremely valuable. You know who
benefits most from such information? That's right -- business! And
businesses would be the ones to squawk the loudest if this information
wasn't available.

Constitutional law always takes precedence over the popular vote.
Otherwise, you have chaos.

The Supreme Court is the arbiter of what is constitutional, and the

Supreme Court itself is a political institution. Given the lifetime
tenure of the justices, it just takes a little longer for the Court to

And, of course, the Framers set out a procedure by which the

Voters are not completely stupid or unreasonable. Therefore, something
like your scenario of killing left-handers is extremely far-fetched.
