So, Ford, which refused to take government bailout money, just posted
a BILLION in profits,

Ino ther words: Ford did not need it.

while the bailed out car companies ended in
bankruptcy and are STILL suffering.

In other words: the others needed it.

Convenient amnesia....that's what you have.  I recall Ford execs going
before Congress that were demanding they take the money, and the
refused the money in Congressional hearings.  I recall their dire
financial condition dropping their stock, just like the others.
However, I recall Ford taking out credit from banks, rather than the
government...banks that didn't, then, demand changes that would sink
their company.  However, anything that works against your side is just
forgotten...like the million broken promises of Obama.

How conveniently you forget that Ford took out some loans for alot of
money a couple  years ago before the economy went so bad.  They didn't
invest as much in developing modern electric and hybrid cars as GM.

Because they knew it was a dead end. They continue to build cars
people want.

So while Ford may look better right now, It is GM that will have a
brighter future because they are building cars for the future.  Even
today GM is building more cars I like.- Hide quoted text -

Now LISTEN!
I just said I like their cars better!
And many people do. Quality speaks for itself, and when people start
seeing these new GM cars cruising the streets they are going to want
one!

What I'm saying is that Ford, like the other American automakers, was
in trouble.  They were offered bailout money.  Because they were in a
better position than GM or Chrysler, they were able to go without it.

Exactly correct, Stile.

It should also be noted that because Ford did not take the bail-out
money, they are also now about *21 billion dollars* in debt now. Chevy
and GM are not.

In addition, the vast majority of Ford workers just rejected a deal to
NOT strike in 2011. when there current contract ends.  Both Chevy and
GM are protect from such a strike by their workers, having gone
through bankruptcy.

Ford might be making money *now*, but given their huge debt and the
possibility of a workers' strike, they are hardly in any great
financially stable position for the near future.

The government had little to do with their actions.
Toyota ate them up and they did nothing except produce shit cars.

Since the "competent" "fruit of the loon" president is running these
companies, why do they continue to return to the pubic trough? Since
the "messiah" fired the CEO of a private company, does that make him a
facist?

The "messiah" picked and chose who got fucked over in the bankruptcy.
Did the shareholders? yep. Did the creditors? yep. Did the Republicans
who owned dealerships? yep. Did the people who had won lawsuits
against GM and Chrysler? yep.

Did the unions? nope.

In ANY normal bankruptcy, the creditors would've wound up owning GM
and Chrysler, but not in this case... The "messiah" had already
determined who the new owners would be... the Government and the
Union.

When has ANY U.S. President EVER fired the head of a private company?- Hide quoted text -

So, Ford, which refused to take government bailout money, just
posted
a BILLION in profits,
Ino ther words: Ford did not need it.
while the bailed out car companies ended in
bankruptcy and are STILL suffering.
In other words: the others needed it.
Convenient amnesia....that's what you have. I recall Ford execs
going
before Congress that were demanding they take the money, and the
refused the money in Congressional hearings. I recall their dire
financial condition dropping their stock, just like the others.
However, I recall Ford taking out credit from banks, rather than
the
government...banks that didn't, then, demand changes that would
sink
their company. However, anything that works against your side is
just
forgotten...like the million broken promises of Obama.

How conveniently you forget that Ford took out some loans for alot
of
money a couple years ago before the economy went so bad. They
didn't
invest as much in developing modern electric and hybrid cars as GM.
So while Ford may look better right now, It is GM that will have a
brighter future because they are building cars for the future.
Assuming (1) that electrics and hybrids really *are* the cars of the
future, and (2) GM does something that they haven't done for
decades, which is to manufacture electrics and hybrids vehicles
which are broadly more attractive to buy than Honda, Toyota, and the
broad set of competitors, not just Ford. (Honda's electric will be
half the price of the Volt.)

GM's a dead man walking until they actually come to market with a
hit. There's none on the horizon.

JG

Even
today GM is building more cars I like.

Incompetent GM management brought GM down.
The sick patient is still alive.
Business has picked up and they're not selling Opel because they
believe they can make a profit there.

It's not government that caused this mess....The mess belongs to
Republican Reagan, HW Bush, and bush,jr

That's exactly why we need tariffs. So foreign car makers can't
undercut our own car makers in our own country. I think the volt is a
better car than the honda.
It may be, but it's almost 2.5X the price. Tariffs on the Honda would
just insure that the Volt sits in the showroom and looks pretty while
inventories build up and people buy Malibus and Focuses (Foci?).

Besides, Honda would just build a plant in Texas and make them here.
Better for US jobs, but not better for the Volt and not better for GM.

JG- Hide quoted text -

I don't mind if Honda or any of t he other car makers want to build
plants in the US and build cars here using US workers. I would love
to see Subaru open up a US plant, I love their cars!

Yes, this is the part of outsourcing we like (when other people
outsource to us)!.

In fact, this 2008 article says that 2/3 of all "foreign imports" are
now actually made in the US. How about that? I had no idea it was that
high.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1205/p01s04-usec.html

Subaru has quite the loyal following, I understand. If Kia's US business
is so large as to justify a plan in the ex-Textile belt, can Subaru be
that far behind? Perhaps they have some plans on the table.

Ford only looks like they have a profit because they took out some
huge loans prior to the economy collapsing and they just sat on the
money. GM made alot of investments in retooling their plants for new
vehicles like the volt, so while they don't have money now their
prospects of making good profits in the future are quite good!
