Paranoid Personality Disorder

http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis/p20-pe01.html

"Individuals with this disorder are generally difficult to get along with
and often have problems with close relationships because of their excessive
suspiciousness and hostility. Their combative and suspicious nature may
elicit a hostile response in others, which then serves to confirm their
original expectations.

"Individuals with this disorder have a need to have a high degree of control
over those around them. They are often rigid, critical of others, and unable
to collaborate, although they have great difficulty accepting criticism
themselves. They often become involved in legal disputes.

"They may exhibit thinly hidden, unrealistic grandiose fantasies, are often
attuned to issues of power and rank, and tend to develop negative
stereotypes of others, particularly those from population groups distinct
from their own. More severely affected individuals with this disorder may be
perceived by others as fanatics and form tightly knit cults or groups with
others who share their paranoid beliefs."

Does the above description fit Barbara Schwarz? I would say, yes, and to a
tee. Her recent behavior, in particular, is a good illustration of all the
above symptoms. Let's examine them more closely, one by one.

1) Individuals with this disorder are generally difficult to get along with
and often have problems with close relationships because of their excessive
suspiciousness and hostility.

~~Barbara gets along with very few people and does seem to have difficulties
with close relationships because she is excessively suspicious and hostile.
The closer one attempts to become to her the more suspicious and hostile she
becomes to ward them off.

2) Their combative and suspicious nature may elicit a hostile response in
others, which then serves to confirm their original expectations.

~~ Barbara is suspicious of the motives of just about everybody in ARS. Her
typical response is a combative response. She probably does this on purpose
to confirm her expectations that everybody is out to get her.

3) Individuals with this disorder have a need to have a high degree of
control over those around them.

~~ Yes, it IS all about control when Barbara posts. If somebody will not be
controlled and confronts her she becomes increasingly antagonistic towards
them. Examine her recent sig paragraphs. She works hard to grow, expand,
exaggerate and reinforce her delusions. The more she can vilify somebody she
can't control the more in control she feels

4) They are often rigid, critical of others, and unable to collaborate,
although they have great difficulty accepting criticism themselves.

~~ Rigid describes Barbara well and, indeed she is very critical of others.
She rarely collaborates. She can dish it out but she can't take it.

5) They often become involved in legal disputes.

~~ AMEN! Barbara has a page on Wiki describing her excessive litigation. She
has a world record for FOIA suits.

6) They may exhibit thinly hidden, unrealistic grandiose fantasies, are
often attuned to issues of power and rank, and tend to develop negative
stereotypes of others, particularly those from population groups distinct
from their own.

~~ Grandiose fantasies, yes! Kidnappings, memory modifications, body
doubles, imprisonment in various mental hospitals, grandiose underwater
habitats all centering on the power issue of the German secret police vs.
the world. She definitely has negative stereotypes concerning psychologist
and psychology. And everybody who is not a Scientologist is doubly suspect.

7) More severely affected individuals with this disorder may be perceived by
others as fanatics and form tightly knit cults or groups with others who
share their paranoid beliefs."

~~ Many maintain Scientology is a cult and Barbara is a self-proclaimed
Scientologist. Most everybody thinks Barbara is a fanatic.

Is Barbara the only Scientology or ex-Scientology person exhibiting some or
all of the symptoms of Paranoid Personality Disorder? Hardly.

Most of the vocal anti-Scientology extremists have the same modus operandi,
or so it appears to me. The only difference is they seem to have narrowed
the focus of their personality disorder to that which most likely caused it
in the first place - The Church of Scientology. To give these some measure
of credit, at least they have managed to narrow the focus of their Paranoia.
This is an indication that they may be in the process of healing and
overcoming the adverse effects of Church doctrine.
