MAINE Reminds the WORLD that the USA is still INFESTED
with Hateful & Ignorant BIGOTS! **SHAME** on Most of the USA!!

You make the mistake of assuming that a vote against redefinition of
marriage makes a person a bigot.

If one defines marriage to be between a man and a woman of the same
race, then opposing a change is indeed bigotry.

Instead, why not get homosexuals to ask for what they claim to want: equal
treatment under the law.

Because the bigots oppose that.

That is VERY easy to accomplish. Just get a New
Jersey style law passed granting the same rights to civil unions and
marriages.

"Separate but equal"

This isn't true. The government is not stopping anybody from getting
married to someone from the opposite sex, gays or straights; this is a
fact.

"The government is not stopping anybody from getting married to
someone from the [same race]"."

"The government is not stopping anybody from getting married to
someone from the [same religion]"."

The usual bigotry wearing a different dress.

The race argument is bigotry since interracial marriage has been going
on for centuries. The religion argument I believe is a red herring
since I don't recall the US Government ever doing that.

They're both versions of your argument.

No they're not. Marriage between two of the same sex is a new issue.

Quote:
Though I believe gays should be able to marry and suffer like the rest
of us, their cries of discrimination are false since the government
does not restrict them from getting married.

Which is a stupid lie.

Why am I not surprised you don't see that?

Under your logic, it's discrimination for an individual to be
prohibited from marrying a penguin, or his cat.

There is no logical reason to forbid gay marriage.

The tradition of marriage evolved and comes down to us from ancient

BULLSHIT!

Your appalling ignorance and stupidity does not justify your

That is VERY easy to accomplish.  Just get a New
Jersey style law passed granting the same rights
to civil unions and marriages.  Such laws most
certainly would pass in states where redefinition
of marriage failed by narrow margins.

A law would not work, since rights are inherent and
not granted by the government. What is needed is
a Constitutional ruling that gays possess the same
rights as everyone else. This is not the same as
granting a new right, merely validating the existence
of a right that was formerly violated by the government.

It is granting a new right, since they already have
the same rights as everyone else. They can do
the same things that heterosexuals can, including
getting married and just like heterosexuals, they
cannot marry the same sex. So anything else is
to add a new right.

Furthermore, I don't personally use the word "gay".
I refuse to let them hijack it in my discussions and
to call them "gay", is to claim that in order to be
happy, which is what the word really means, one
has to be a homosexual and furthermore, has to
be a homosexual male, since women aren't called
"gay", but "lesbian", which is why you see the
label, "gay and lesbian community".

And why is that "a community"? It is a community,
because they sleep with members of the same sex?

Have people lost their minds so much, that they will
actually tolerate people claiming to be in need of
laws, because they have sex with the same gender
and want to claim that's a "lifestyle"? Huh???

So if I have sex with monkeys, then I can claim that
it's an entire "lifestyle" and get special protections
under the law? Please! <chuckle>

Quote:
The necessary Constitutional basis can be found
in the 14th Amendment, which says that no state
shall deprive any person of the equal protection
of its laws.

And no one is.

Quote:
As for same-sex marriage, it is no more a constitutional
right than heterosexual marriage.

Then the 14th Amendment isn't relevant. You can't
have it both ways. You can't bring in the Constitution
to make homosexual marriage legal and then say that
it's not relevant in the matter of marriage.

Quote:
Marriage is a religious concept

Actually, it's a legal concept and that's true even in
the Bible, right down to the agreement made and
the dowry. And that's why marriages performed by
civil servants and even ship captains are recognized.

Interestingly enough, in this country, a marriage from
another country may not be recognized, even a country
we like, like Italy for example, if you didn't apply for a
marriage license here, before flying over there, to have
your wedding in your home land.

And yet, as far as I know, for most people that move
here, who have never been here, their marriage is
automatically recognized. Unless of course, it was
performed by a chimp in drag or something. :)

FREEDOM is ACCELERATING!

Same-sex marriage (SSM) is REALITY in all these places, and
the list is steadily and inexorably* growing:

( * RRR Cultists: Look up "inexorable." Take it to heart.)

• Netherlands (as of 2001)
• Belgium (2003)
• Massachusetts (2004)
• Canada (2005)
• Spain (2005)
• South Africa (2005)
• Norway (2008)
• Connecticut (2008)
• New York ** (2008)
...and getting very CLOSE in 2009.
• Iowa (2009)
• Vermont (2009)
• Sweden (2009)
• New Hampshire (2009)
• Washington, D.C.** (2009)
• New Jersey: PENDING in 2009
• Hungary: PENDING in 2009
• Albania: PENDING in 2009

• Australia: 60% of Population now SUPPORTS it!
• Britain: 61% of Population now SUPPORTS it!

** New York State, Rhode Island, Washington, D.C.,
France, and Israel now recognize gay marriages
for couples legally married outside of the
state/district/country.

Gender composition is IRRELEVANT. Expect this to be the case
in almost ALL of the world within a few more years, as its societies
continue to OUTGROW and REJECT mindless bigotries.

The bigots have *already* LOST, and the RATE of their loss
is accelerating. A few years from now, SSM will be legal in ALL
50 states, and people will look back at them and their agenda, and
both will very properly be recalled with the *same* DERISION that
we now hold for the Segregationists and *their* EXTINCT agenda.
