Do any EC countries still have conscription?

Very soon, *all* EU states will have conscription.

That would be why they are gradually getting rid of it then would it?

Bwahahahaha. Yeah that's it, the other 26 countries comprising about 450
million people in the EU have only one purpose, only one desire, to put
the boot into the UK

It really is time you grew up.

As for trusting you, I wouldn't trust you to go down the shops and buy a
loaf of bread.

I should have known! - and post contain g the slightest references to
'kicking', 'booting' or other kinds of footwear related assault has you
buzzing around like a wasp at a picnic.

Such is the nature of our humiliation as a formerly great nation is
betrayed.

It's rather like that true son of England, the Hovis baker's boy - he
who valiantly pushes his heavy all-steel bicycle up the steep cobbled
streets of County Durham, delivering the weighty goodness of wholegrain
English wheat to working class hero's just back from the trenches -
metamorphosing into into an effeminate Frenchified thing, mincing on his
cosmopolitan way with his basket of baguettes, each one filled with airy
cotton wool and hand-wrapped in declarations of surrender.

John Bull is now in chains - and worthless titterers like you gloat
about his plight.

Lack of any sort of cogent reply noted.

Britain ceased to be a great nation from 1945 onwards, it has nothing to
do with the EU

John Bull is and forever shall be a load of jingoistic crap and has no
place in a modern world.

No!

That's the bit I don't get - if I've got it right, the principle of
Parliamentary sovereignty means that no government can put into law
anything that would overturn Parliamentary sovereignty. It would
simply not be valid. Or have I got it wrong?

New laws take precedence over old laws.

Not sure, but Parliament had to ratify the treaty (not that it was any
trouble for the government to achieve this result)...

The HOL would be perfectly capable of declaring this unconstitutional as
far as I know.

We don't have a constitution.

There is a higher proportion of foreigners serving in the British army
than living in the UK. The last time I looked at the MoD web site it
said about 10% of soldiers are foreigners, and that didn't include
Ghurkas who are about another 2% of them...

But you have previously asserted - in quite strenuous terms - that the
Ghurkas are paid mercenaries, not soldiers. Why is it that they are
mercenaries one minute and soldiers the next? It couldn't possibly be
because it suits your particular argument at the time, could it?

But are mercenaries not a proper subset of soldiers?

Perhaps they are in this case. William is making up the definitions;
I'm merely commenting on them.

What is the basis for this claim?

My view is that anyone who is prepared to fight for their cause is a
brave man.

No matter how misguided that cause.

Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee

Just wait, laddie.

"Do any EC countries still have conscription?"

Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee
Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee

Conscription is an integral part of the EU project, you fool !

Lack of any content noted.

I saw some content. The claim that conscription is part of the EU project.

It's a pretty wild claim. They do want an army, but they want it to be a
volunteer army. And it should be more like a police force or gendarmerie,
going around the world doing good deeds in benighted places.

That'd be more like a militia or barrack police such as they have in
France, Italy and Spain.

I very much doubt it would work in the UK, and watching these people
run from jeering t-shirted British youths whenever there's a problem at
a football match abroad does rather indicate that they wouldn't be of
much use here...
