Somebody had to pay to fly the washers to Iraq.

Surely there are washers for sale in Kuwait or Saudi Arabia or Egypt.
Surely we didn't need to fly washers from stateside.

Actually, the US military standard for washers applies, not kuwait
standard.

Everything the US military uses has a mil standard number.

THAT is why government healtcare can never be effective.

Except that Medicare had (has?) a 2% administrative overhead, with
most of the money going to the doctors.

You just described HMOs, where some huge number - 45%? - of their
revenue goes to "administrative overhead", including bribing Congress
to prevent competition from Medicare...

And what about the government mandated HCFA organization that has nearly
brough several clinics and hospitals to their knees with govenment
regulatory conditions. If healthcare providers are to get reimbursed for
medicare/medicade, they have to jump through an incredible number of hoops
to collect. Why would a national system have any less oversight...probably
more. But on the plus side, Obama could claim to have "created" all those
regulatory jobs.

Interesting that you immediately disqualify those governmental
programs that a generally considered to be quite efficient.

But, I'll give you a few:

The Centers for Disease Control
The Food and Drug Administration
The USDA
The Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Now, none of these programs are perfect, and I'm sure you'll post back
with complaints about one aspect or another, but overall these
programs are efficently run and get a lot of good work done.

No..for different reasons. However, the government bailout rewarded them

for failure, instead of letting the market resolve the issues.

Cute. If you knew anything about mil standards, you would know that there

are standards for every item. Since the article did not divulge the washer
part number, it is pretty difficult to produce the mil-spec for that part
number. With that little twist, you will claim victory.

The fact is that the government system includes documentation and most
likely there will be meetings with the vendor to go over the documentation
and manufacturing process. All that doesn't come for free.

As applied to healthcare......there is no way that the government will be
able to avoid the same excessively costly processes.

Somebody had to pay to fly the washers to Iraq.

Surely there are washers for sale in Kuwait or Saudi Arabia or
Egypt.
Surely we didn't need to fly washers from stateside.

Actually, the US military standard for washers applies, not kuwait
standard.

Everything the US military uses has a mil standard number.

Tell us the mil spec for a washer and compare with a "civilian"
one -

Easy - standards.

Which standards? Name them.

No dodging this time.

Cute. If you knew anything about mil standards, you would know that
there are standards for every item. Since the article did not divulge
the washer part number, it is pretty difficult to produce the mil-spec
for that part number. With that little twist, you will claim victory.

The fact is that the government system includes documentation and most
likely there will be meetings with the vendor to go over the
documentation and manufacturing process. All that doesn't come for
free.

As applied to healthcare......there is no way that the government will
be able to avoid the same excessively costly processes.

Wrong.

It's done today in Medicare with MUCH less paper work than private
insurers use

Nope. The Medicare paperwork burden on the private insurers, clinics,
hospitals is enormous. Far in excess of what is needed.

.
.
Not anything like the rejections and resubmissions that the insurance
companies force on the providers.

Medicare administration cost about 3 to 4%...private in the 30% to 40%
area.

Are those per transaction percentages?

That is because the government forces private insurers to spend a large part

of that 30-40%. Let me give you an example: if a clinic had NO medicare
patients and then decided to treat one. To get reimbursed for that medicare
treatment, the government would require all sorts of unrelated reports from
the clinic, under the guise of quality control oversight. Reports such as
"how many rubella shots were given to infants".

Before receiving a dollar payment from the government in one area, the
government insists on participation in government sponsored initiatives in
other areas.

With government doing the whole shebang, the government will incur all of
those costs...AND more and more, as oversight is added for additional
spending.
