Police: Woman Helped Hit-And-Run Suspects Escape
Flor Campos, 24, Charged With Felony
OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha Police have arrested a woman in connection with the
fatal crash of a 27-year-old man. Ronald Rydberg was killed Monday morning
in the hit-and-run collision at 42nd and Q streets.
KETV Newswatch 7 has learned police arrested Flor Campos, 24, and charged
her with being an accessory to a felony. Police reports indicate Campos
drove the driver of the truck and his passenger, his brother, to a bus
station in Kansas City so they could escape to Mexico.
Campos, who can't afford an attorney, has a preliminary hearing set for Nov.
24. She could face up to five years in jail and a $10,000 fine. Her bond was
set at $50,000.
Police said Rydberg was turning onto 42nd Street when his older-model Buick
was struck broadside by a Dodge Ram pickup truck heading east. Rydberg died
at the scene.
Two people ran from the pickup truck, heading south, police said.
Neither the name of the driver nor of the passenger have been released.
Police spokesman Jacob Bettin said the two could face charges of motor
vehicle homicide.
Rydberg's family members said they hope a guilty conscience compels those
responsible to turn themselves in.
"We're very disappointed. And we just hope they know that he is very loved
and we hope they do the right thing," the family said.
Miranda Engelkamp grew up with Rydberg. Her memories with him span many
years.
"He was just the type of person who always made you feel loved and knew that
he cared about you. I am just a family friend, but I consider him more like
a brother figure to me," Engelkamp said.
