RIGHT, ALL ALONG
The small Pennsylvania town of Shenandoah is celebrating the acquittal
of two popular teens in a street-brawl with an illegal-alien. The
triumph of football-players Brandon Piekarsky, 17, and Derrick
Donchak, 19, sent a strong message to Mexicans, who had been flooding
the area. Luis Ramirez, 25, and his fifteen-year-old white-concubine,
with whom Ramirez had an illegitimate-child, had been rebuked by the
teens in a park. Ramirez, then, chased the teens, while summoning
his fellow-gangsters, on a cellular-phone, and was punched out by
Piekarsky. Ramirez had been in town two years.
The disappointed Mexican Legal Defense Fund said that the teens should
be re-prosecuted, despite the constitutional-bar against double-jeopardy.
Alejandro Miyan, the Mexican representative of the Justice Department,
said that he was "investigating." But, The Nationalist Movement,
which won a First-Amendment case against nearby York, warned Miyan
not to violate the Fifth Amendment. James Seale, a Sixties' anti-Communist,
had been charged in the death of a black-power agitator, after charges
were dismissed nearly half-a-century beforehand. An appellate-court
threw the conviction out.
Supporters of the teens and white-jury, which acquitted the young
heroes of murder and aggravated assault, cried "you were right, all
along" at the Schuylkill County Courthouse. Piekarsky and Donchak were,
also, acquitted of "hate," for shouting anti-Wetback slogans. Zach Hale
commented that Americans were tired of "Mexicans coming here and
stealing from us." He predicted that the tide was turning.
