WCW Drive out the Bush Regime failed.
http://revcom.us/a/142/Avakian_Objective_Situation-en.html
RCP are trying to sum it up as
a success because they think failure reflects badly on
BA; this is a wrong, petty-bourgeois attitude.
Communists need to admit what didn't work,
understand why, and proceed ahead.
I agree with them that something like WCW should
have been done, but we must now admit that
just because it was warranted DOESN'T MEAN
IT WAS A SUCCESS.
When the NUM strike failed in the UK, they didn't claim
victory or say they shouldn't have tried a strike
(both of which would've been wrong summations)
but on the first day back to work
they all marched back to the pit heads together.
Some thoughts on why the slogan Drive out the Bush regime wasn't
fulfilled
I. trough in resistance USA
a. demoralization/adaptation of leaders of mass movements to
imperialism
1. black movement
2. trade unions
3. womens/abortion rights
b. no example in the world of successful anti-imperialist
struggle to inspire rebel youth
and oppressed.
1. no NLF; no FLN; no FSLN ; no July 26th Movement
2. PLO and IRA seeking compromise & surrendering militancy
3. no domestic militancy around social struggles
a. CIO
b. SNCC
c. Malcolm X or Panthers
II. Bush regime not set-back by their military opponents
a. news blackout on returning dead soldiers
b. news blackout self-imposed on extent of Iraq/Afghan
casualties
c. news blackout self imposed on brutality of occupation
d. no unignorable defeats or failures of decision (a la Tet, Bay
of Pigs, Quito Cuanavale)
e. no draft and no draft resistance a la Vietnam
III. misunderstanding of united front
a. united front means different groups that strike together on
1 agreed-upon target
b. united front can include proletarian and petty bourgeois
orgs
1. unions
2. nationalities
3. farmers
4. students
5. women
c. the united front members should not be required to agree
upon
'under the leadership of the proletariat'
just where to come together with their common slogans
IV. 'drive out' not concrete
a. resign
b. impeach
c. 'drive out' sounds ultra-left, like 'drive out the cops' or
'drive out the scabs'
or 'drive out the Klan'. No adventures, please.
V. Electoral arena Propaganda Campaign Options Ignored
a. Nation-wide presidential election year canvassing/petition
campaign to "Let the people vote on war"
b. Run real anti-war presidential candidate committed to
1. bring troops home starting inauguration day
2. arrest all Dem and Rep officials for War Crimes
VI. Other united front propaganda events ignored
a. new Nuremberg Trials
b. new Russell tribunal |
