tom you are partly correct. you are thinking of Duper and Clayton, but
neither is going to the HoF. after those two left, Marino had some good
WR's but no greats. he also never had a very good RB(Montana had Roger
Craig).

Miami's D was very bad in the 80's, a perfect example was, a game vs.
the Jets that he threw 6 TD's in but they lost. SF never had a Elite D
with JM, but always a solid one.

Steve Young filled JM shoes(he is a all time great), but journeyman QB's
like Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac looked ok in SF. the system that Bill
Walsh installed, combined with the greatest WR of all time made
JM(probably more) as much as he made them.

i hear ya tom, but we aren't talking about plugging in just any player.

For those who stayed up so late to see the end of the Colts Pats
game, I just wonder why the Pats went for it on 4th down. All they had
to do is punt it, and maybe, maybe it would have been too many yards
and not enough time to get another TD. However, if they could have got
a stopper on the previous drive it may have been a moot point.

Tom

Keep going for it on 4th down. Your punter doesn't need to take the
field to get a paycheck.

Belichick had little confidence in his defense because Manning had
just lit them up in the 4th quarter and he figured that Brady and the
offense could get him that yard and a half for the first down then let
the clock wind down. It was a gamble, he took it and he lost that's
all. Manning is known for tearing up defenses in the last 2 minutes of
play so he didn't want to take the chance. I would have punted and let
the defense try and win it. One thing I will say is that I have
watched Belichick answer questions about it and his attitude is that
he thought it was the way to go and he would still do the same thing.
He told the reporters its time to turn the page and move on to the
next game. I cant stand Belichick but I admire his "it happened, lets
move on" attitude towards the whole thing. I sometimes wonder what the
tapes made by Belichick, confiscated by the league showed that the
commissioner decided to destroy them almost immediately and then
release a statement saying they showed nothing. I think they showed
something wrong and rather have a big black eye for the league and its
glory team he decided to kill all evidence and keep it quiet. If the
tapes did show wrongdoing there might have been a situation where he
might have had to strip the Pats of their SB's and declare no winner
for those years. It would have been fun to see Belichick, Kraft and
the leagues glory boy Brady squirm. Especially Brady, he's too
arrogant and full of himself. I enjoyed watching the Giants tear Brady
apart and make him eat dirt during the Giants SB win.

Belicheck's defense probably isn't happy and ready to move on. It
was the wrong call, and I did like seeing them not make the first
down.

Tom

Keep going for it on 4th down. There's no need for punters in the NFL.

Perhaps they won't go to the HoF, but surely they're considered all
time Dolphin greats.

You throw 6 TD's and lose really does make a statement about you
defense. Maybe if the defense hadn't taken the field the score would
have been closer. :)

It surely helped. I still say though, performing in SB's, and in the
playoff's. 4th quarter comebacks and so on. He's one of the best.

That's a rough way to lose. However didn't they lose in the playoffs
one year like 62-7.

I used to be a big Cowboys fan back in the 70's and 80's. When the
team seemed to fill up with bad characters after their last run with
Troy and Emmett I sort of let that lapse.
I guess I could say I am a fan of the Colts now. (as local a team as
we have.)

That's why I enjoyed the beating Brady took at the hands of the Giants
defense in the Super Bowl. Strahan was all over his ass verbally and
physically and Brady buckled like the crybaby he is. I have the shirt
that says 18 and doh and I wear it proudly!

I assume you enjoyed the Monday night game, then.
