(otoh, OP was asking for it by doing an in-place upgrade instead of a
clean-wipe reinstall... I'll let you guys know how's my Win7 experience in a
few days).

This.

I never, never do an "Upgrade". If its time for me to move to a new OS,
then its time for me to wipe the machine.

Agreed, if I can't afford a new hard drive, I can't afford to
upgrade.

Although it seems a bunch of the "free upgrades" sold with new
computers required you to install Vista first (they wouldn't give you
a disk to do a clean 7 install).

Mike,
Sorry to hear about the Broken Promises :)

Is that what Apple tells you whenever there's an "upgrade" to your OS?

My brother was going to show me how awesome OsX is but I logged into his
visitor account before he could... oopsie! Very Happy
I will be the first to admit that Snowy Leopard is far from bug free.
I have had my fair share of annoying quirks since upgrading...
Nothing as severe as a reboot loop but the migration to 64 bit has its
challenges.  Besides, who would ever use a guest account anyway :O

1.- Did the reboot loop mean information loss to you? Because information loss
_is_ the worst that can happen.
2.- I, for one, don't have an account at my parent's, my brother's, or my
in-laws computers, and don't want one. That's what the guest account is
for.

(otoh, OP was asking for it by doing an in-place upgrade instead of a
clean-wipe reinstall... I'll let you guys know how's my Win7 experience in a

If I recall correctly, it went well when I installed XP way back when.
I do take some responsibility, but from what I've read, I'm not the only
victim.

Sorry your install went so fucked up.

That's why I gots me a full drive image of my old xp install before I try
win7.

Bah! I backup up my usual docs/pics/music/vids/downloads and started
again. If it went bang or refused to play I'd have reverted to a clean
build of the previous O/S

Been running 7 for about 3 months now. Not a single problem here.
Best upgrade I ever made from Vista :)

LOL.

Yeah - I've *heard* it's pretty good. :/

I did some research prior to attempting the upgrade (not the clean
install) and I didn't hear of any problems. I also downloaded and ran
the diagnostic to make sure my laptop was - well, worthy I guess.

So I ran with it.

I'll get my laptop back (hopefully) with a clean install and ... well,
here's hoping. (fingers crossed)
