He's been singing regularly with Jon Lord recently. I had never heard of
him before but he's been incredible both times I have seen him. Have a
listen to this and you can perhaps see why Jon Lord picked him to sing
Child in Time:

There are singers and there are singers.
The rock world is full of vocalists that may have charisma and a
characteristic voice, but their technical ability is often quite
limited. This guy really can sing! That rendition of Gethsemane was
really good, and it's easy to understand that he can do "Child in Time"
well. Or for that matter "Soldier of Fortune".
While off-topic, I can't resist from comparing with a tribute album for
Joni Mitchell that I've bought recently. In the middle of the album,
there is "Ladies of the Canyon" interpreted by Annie Lennox, an artist
I've paid much attention to. But there is also this startling contrast,
because she is a so much better singer than any other artist on that
album.
