He famously wrote that he wanted to be a paperback writer. A recently
discovered essay, penned in 1953 for a local competition, shows Paul
McCartney got started early.
A British researcher found an essay written by the former Beatle for
the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. In it, he called her "our lovely
young queen."
Kevin Roach found the work in records at Liverpool's Central Library.
Roach said McCartney's writing is "advanced you would say it was
written by someone who was older than 10 years old, more like 14 or
15."
McCartney won the under-11 age category. He was given a prize a gift
certificate for books by Liverpool's Lord Mayor. His brother Mike
told the Sunday Times he recalls McCartney "being nervous" before
receiving the prize. |
