Plans for the Leonard Cohen birthday celebration here tomorrow night,
some archived statements:
Ah, it must have not been that funny, really... I left it dangling on
here for several hours and nobody laughed.
Ummm... happy birthday, Leonard Cohen!
Yes, happy birthday Leonard! Don't go collapsing anymore either
because I really would like to see him in November.
I read that he doesn't have another show until October 13th, so maybe
he can get some rest. At 75, still writing and touring, Leonard Cohen
is a perfect example of the Anti-Geezer.
"God save the Village Green!" -Ray Davies
I love the voice. I'm supposed to meet in the morning with a friend
and go over three LC songs to duet with her on Wednesday night at The
Loft, a little party for him for us, "Hey That's No Way To Say
Goodbye", "Sisters Of Mercy" & "So Long, Marrianne". That's the era of
Cohen I enjoy most, very simple guitar and subtle backing.
"Joan of Arc!" ("if you are fire, oh, I must be wood") "Sisters of
Mercy." Also, "Famous Blue Raincoat"..."thanks for the trouble, you
took from her eyes, I thought it was there for good, so I never
tried."
Yes, we mentioned "Famous Blue Raincoat", and really more suitable for
the current condition of my voice these days, maybe. As with the "bad
singer" silliness, there's always that "depressing" description. I
don't find his lyrics depressing, I'm so knocked out by the great
lines that LC always leaves me grinning and hoping to someday hit that
level.
"Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair, she said that you
gave it to her. That night that you planned to go clear. Did you ever
go clear?"

Happy Birthday Week, Leonard Cohen set at The Loft tonight. Bring a
favorite LC song and join Will Dockery & Eileen d'Esterno in our party
for LC on the week of his 75th year. I'll be singing a few and Eileen
will sing a few, backed by her guitar & flautist Gene Woolfolk, Jr.

Thanks to Eileen d'Esterno (guitar) & Geno Woolfolk (flute) for
working out the tunes with me in less than a day, and Randy Dameron
(guitar), Jim Patrick (bass), Steve Scott (drums), Darlene & Doris
(vocals) for picking up the groove in ......about 30 seconds. Thanks
also to Brian Mallard for filming it, and for those of you who could
make it out for the preview of sounds & visions to come. Shadowville
All-Stars, a circle of friends, kudos to you all!
