It would be the ultimate in brave decisions if they were to leave it
off, wouldn't it? It's probably the final track, though.

One compilation the world could probably do with is a "Best of Queen Not
Written by Freddie". I think many would be surprised that the quality
stays unbelievably high.

They came damn close to that with "Queen Rocks". Everything on it was was
written Brian or Roger, with the exception of "Seven Seas of Rhye", which
seemed like a last minute add-on to me, anyway. Sure, there was "I Can't
Live With You", "Stone Cold Crazy", "One Vision", and "I Want It All" on
there, which were all attributed to "Queen" as a whole, but its pretty
obvious on some of those songs that the largest contributions were made by
Brian. Add in "Sheer Heart Attack" and "I'm In Love With My Car" by Roger,
and its almost Freddie-free.

I never realized that. Funny.

They're welcome to leave it off. As well as not release another greatest
hits compilation. They have too many out already. They will become the
masters of greatest hits and thus cloud their legacy.

True, but by limiting it to rockers, it's hardly representative of the
overall catalogue of the "other" writers.

Come to think of it, a Best of John Deacon would knock spots off most of
what's in the charts these days!

Queen can't hold a candle to Aerosmith as far as Greatest Hits
Compilations go. I think they've ven put out 2 in the same year before.

Greatest Hits, Big Ones, Devil's Got a New Disguise, O' Yeah!, Gems, 20th
Century Masters

Come to think of it, Iron Maiden's got quite a few more greatest hits
compilations thn they really need, too.

Best of the Beast, Ed Hunter, Somewhere Back In Time, 20th Century
Masters, Edward The Great

By the by, Queen has just as many, but a more consistant naming strategy
makes for fewer repeats of songs across the different compilations.

Greatest Hits, Greatest Hits II, Greatest Hits III, Classic Queen,
Greatest Hits (Hollywood), Greatest Hits WWRY Edition, Q Is for Queen:
The A - Z of Queen Volume I, Stone Cold Classics, Queen Rocks.

Not really Queen's fault, but Hollywood's "Greatest Hits" was so crappy
that they put out the original UK Greatest Hits I & II in both the Gold
Collection and the Platinum Collection.

I think that was the idea, which got a little watered down by adding "No-
One But You" to it. Sure, its a meaningful song, but it stuck out like a
sore thumb.

I don't know about all that. He's had some greats, with "You're My Best
Friend" "Another One Bites the Dust", and "I Want To Break Free", and the
rest of his songs are pretty good, but I doubt it would beat stuff up on
the charts, unless you're talking about an comp that showcased his bass-
playing, then yeah, John was the man!

* Stone Cold Crazy (with Mercury, May & Taylor)
* Misfire
* You're My Best Friend
* You And I
* Spread Your Wings
* Who Needs You
* If You Can't Beat Them
* In Only Seven Days
* Another One Bites The Dust
* Need Your Loving Tonight
* Execution Of Flash
* Arboria (Planet Of The Tree Men)
* Back Chat
* Cool Cat (with Mercury)
* I Want To Break Free
* One Year Of Love
* Pain Is So Close To Pleasure (with Mercury)
* Friends Will Be Friends (with Mercury)

Well, those ten alone would make a pretty decent album! I'd add in I
Want to Break Free and Friends Will Be Friends, plus I've always
considered Back Chat the best of the "dancier" tunes on Hot Space. Not
for everyone, though.

John reminds me of George Harrison, in that while not the primary writer
in the band, his "batting average" was remarkably high.

I have to say - defeating my own argument - these are two of my
least-favourite Queen songs.

WWRY/WATC oughta be at the end of the CD.
The concerts from 1977 up ended with that.
