Selling Beats Online - Preparation...

Before you start making the big money selling beats online you must
first prepare. A boxer doesn't go into a boxing match without
preparing or the fight, A NFL team doesn't go into a NFL match without
first preparing for the game, so why would you think about going into
a business without preparing first?
First thing you need to do is organize your product. Your product is
your beats so you want to have 50-100 hot beats you are ready to lease
out for $20 - $50 each.
Make a new folder on your computer and place all of the beats you
chose to sell online in that folder. Label that folder "Online Beats".
The next step is VERY important. You need to make a folder for the
type of beats you have. A few example categories are RnB, Dirty South,
Westcoast, Eastcoast, etc...
This will make it easier for the customer. Don't you like it when you
don't have to search long for what your looking for. Many times an
artist has a specific type of beat they are looking for. It's better
to have them categorized so the artist doesn't have to filter through
a bunch of beats they are looking for.
Place each beat in the corresponding folder. If you want to go the
extra mile you could put the BPM of each beat in the name of each
beat. For Example:
HotBeat1(99 BPM)
This will help narrow down their choices.
Now that you have your beats organized you need to determine how much
you want to lease them for. Below are some guidelines you should
follow when pricing your beats.
1. All your beats should be priced the same. Don't try to charge more
for one beat because YOU feel it is better than the rest. This is a
common mistake made by producers selling their beats online. You have
to remember just because you personally feel one beat is the hottest
thing ever, doesn't mean your customers will feel that way also.
2. Don't charge more than $50 per beat. $50 may seem cheap for a beat,
but it's not if it's lease. You have to remember you are focusing on
the multiple sale of one beat. That's why I usually suggest $15 - $20
per beat. With multiple artist paying for one beat, it will make more
money in the long run, than one lump sum.
If you prepare your business before you launch it there will be a
greater chance for success.
