Anyone have an opinion they would like to share on the new single, "wrong"?

I actually really like it. It's not going to be big at concerts, doesn't
have that hook, but i reckon it'll be top 5 (watch it bomb at 26 now).

Funny how songs are better live than others. "A Pain That I'm Used TO" was
fantastic line - a really good hook, yet "precoius" (a much better song
IMHO) doesn't have that beat.

There just doesn't seem to be much substance to it. I'm hoping I'm more
impressed with the rest of the songs on the album. But maybe it will
grow on me.

I didnt like it when I first heard it, but 2 days later found myself
being unable to stop singing (or humming) it......dunno if it's the
fact that it's easy to remember because they use the word "wrong" so
much.....but it's growing on me......just wish i wasn't so quick to
dismiss it when i first heard it.....i should know better...they're
good at the "slow burners".......

Many of their later songs are like that, unfortunately. I miss the old
songs that were instantly likable. If all their music required a
"growing on" period, I never would have been interested in them. The
first album I heard was "Some Great Reward." I listened to it once and
was hooked. Apparently many people think they peaked with "Violator." I
think they peaked at the "Black Celebration"/"Music for the Masses"
period. But I still buy everything they put out. :)

I would agree with you there.....I think there have been some
exeptions.....(in your room, sweetest condition, and I kinda liked
precious...because it REALLY felt like it came from the heart)....but
they peaked at black celebration and music for the masses.....

even the lyrics are trivial trype. Damn , miss the old DM. They have done
some good stuff in recent years, but . . . . . they have not begun to
eclipse their classics. No hunger. No drive. No need to . . .

Wrong sounds like a RAP song to Me, Maybe the Lyrics Rhyme thingie.
Soundwise
it's Very DM but with poor Synth leads (where's Alan!!?). I hope they
have a better Single to follow up Wrong, I haven't listen to the other
tracks on the album yet.. Nothing wrong with Wrong but Precious (as a
lead single) was a lot better!

Can't sound more like a rap song than Barrel of a Gun which was,
y'know... a RAP song.

I actually quite like it. The lyrics contain some interesting couplets
(and are better than just about everything on Exciter) and I think the
music is an improvement on much of PTA. It's deceptively repetitive on
the first few listens, but it builds nicely and has an undercurrent of
menace which the video exploits to good effect.

I think Precious was special in the way that only such a personal song
could be, so is possibly not a fair comparison, but I give Wrong the
thumbs up!

I really don't understand why a lot of people are furious against DM
cause they dont like their new stuff. I've been a fan from the
beginning and as far as i'm concerned i don't know any band that is
still doing interresting stuff after almost 30 years... Come on !!!
There's always at least a couple of good songs on every album since
Violator... To me Violator is in the same category as The Joshua
Tree : A COMPLETE album FULL of great songs. U2 has the same kind of
problem, their fans are looking for Joshua Tree #2 and look what U2
produced over the last 15 years !!!

I can understand that every fan is looking for an album that good, but
keep in mind that they are human and nobody's forcing anyone to buy or
listen to their NEW sound... At least these guys are trying to develop
a new kind of sound album after album... There will never be a better
personal jesus or enjoy the silence or anything else... Past is in the
past and i do admire Depeche Mode for what they are trying to do in
the present. If you are deceived by their new CD go back to the old
songs that you like so much and stop your condemnation Sad
People are people...
