something i noticed from posting videos to youtube is that i speed up
the tempo of whatever i'm playing as i go along. i usually beat time
with my foot and that helps - but not always.

anyone have any advice on how to keep a steady beat throughout?

regards - bill

I don't have much advice on that subject. I played in bands for years
and now that I have been out of the music biz for 15 years or so and
started back playing solo acoustic music, I find that I am more
nervous playing in front of people or if I am trying to record
something and my meter goes to hell and I speed up.

I am thinking that the key is to play relaxed and know your material
well enough so you can pay more attention to the meter.

Now, when I am recording a song, I lay down a tempo track first and
play guitar along with the metronome. Then I lay down another track or
two and delete the tempo track.

I have had similar problems and it was somewhat solved by simply a metronome
and a lot of paractice .
