... for Mercury..?

Honestly, it might be. One of the Rock magazines here in the US
(name escapes me at the moment) had an interview with Joe at his studio
in Dublin. He had mentioned that Songs from the Sparkle Lounge is the
last album as far as their contract goes with Mercury. If it sells
well, along with their two tours (summer tour with Whitesnake, tour
with Styx/REO Speedwagon), they may sign again with Mercury, or move on
to another label.

IIRC, Def Leppard has always been with Polygram, then
Mercury/Polygram. I want to say that only Queen and David Bowie have
been with Mercury longer, but I might be wrong.

With music being in the state it's in now, how do you think Def
Leppard would fare going to a new label?

I think they would do great if they did the following:

1) Let Vivian go. His input hasn't been that great. They need someone to
challenge Phil.

2) Hire a guitarist that's going to add/change Def Leppard's sound for
the better. Their current sound is Phil Collen all over. It's almost
like Phil is the only guitarist. His playing (over) saturates the music.
It's almost like biting into something sweet. A small bite is good, but
if you keep eating it, you get sick of it.

I will admit, I've only listened to Songs from the Sparke Lounge a few
times. While I like the harder edge the guitars seem to have, I just
don't think the songs are strong enough.

Def Leppard needs fresh blood in the guitar & songwriting department.

Umm.. There's also an interview with both Phil and Vivian in
either Guitar World or Guitar Edge magazine, talking about their sound
on this album. All of their sound, let alone the riffs and harder edge,
are coming from Vivian, and he even tips his thanks to Steve on that,
and how raw he and the sound he had was on OTTL and High'n'Dry. Worth
another good read.

Also, Viv wrote a good number of the songs on the album, too.

Unlikely, most people have lost interest and it's not good enough to
keep the attention of those he sick around. Hard to believe they were
the hottest band in the work in the late 80s and early 90s.

I wonder if they'll find anyone to pick them up, they need to come up
with something better;
