Hi,
I am an amateur flamenco guitarist, who tries to play solo pieces.
I have a severe problem with finding tabs for the many cool pieces
that I have on records by Sabicas, Paco Pena, and others (I can prepare
a list of the pieces if this might help). I know that flamenco is mostly
improvisation, but I am not that good to be able to learn the pieces
"by air". However, I am confident that I could learn many of them, if I
could have tabs. My question is: is there any place from which one can
download good quality tabs for flamenco guitar, or where one can order/buy
them? I stress that I am not looking for easy pieces or schools. What
I want is advanced, attractive pieces. Search on the web did not led me to
anything useful. I also have some published tabs, but here again I have a problem
with finding out what else has been published and where to find it.
Is there any way to convince the prominent flamenco guitarists to publish
everything they play? This would be great. So far only Juan Martin and
Paco de Lucia seem to have published some of their cool stuff.

I have the "Toques Flamencos" cd/book by Paco Peña and a cd/book of
Niño Ricardo, tabs for Vicente Amigo compositions, Pepe Habichuela,
Gerardo Núñez.. and LOTS of other stuff... I got most of it from the
amorflamenco.com site and Emule or the library..
I can e-mail you Toques Flamencos if you like...

I'll browse my files to see if I have some of the stuff you need.
Emule is a p2p filesharing program. Not illegal as such as long as you
respect copyright - a lot of the tabs available there are NOT illegal
to distribute to my knowledge. I have a lot of video files/ DVDs of
top flamenco players and some of them come with tab booklets (Tomatito
and some of the players mentioned above). I also have hundreds of tabs
and guitar pro files.. they are on a separate hard disk that I really
need to organize better...
Are you familiar with the Oscar Herrero DVDs? They are for both
beginners and more advanced players... just google him and you can
check them out (I have vol.1-3 on dvd and the rest as avi-files).
Anyway, I recommend trying out Emule. A bit confusing to setup but
once installed you have access to the largest collection of flamenco
studying material on the net!!
You mentioned Paco Peña, who I like too. Should you ever come across
tabs for his Tientos del Puerto (called Tientos de la Bahía in some
cases), PLEASE let me know. Here's a video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0x-AefwV4M
Or check out the players I mentioned on Youtube too.
Or check out this user: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=rezarito
He does very nice transcriptions of Vicente Amigo and others and share
the tabs if you contact him. |

Most of those Guitar Pro and Tabledit files are incorrect especially all
those done by one Nickolas Reimann which are full of mistakes.

There was another book published in Holland by one of Paco Pena's students
which had his Zambra Mora and an Alegrias de Cordoba.

I don't recall having this piece. Apart from Toques Flamencos, I only have
his tabs for "Mantilla y peine", published by some Japanese, and I learned
this piece more or less correctly (I hope). This piece is also on the
"Paco Pena Flamenco Master" record.

Hi,
I did some search on the web, and it seems to me now that
the ZAMBRA played by Paco Pena is actually a piece by Nino Ricardo.
So, this may be helpful in locating the tabs.

It's not exactly the same. The intro is actually a Carcelera which was a
song of the prisoners.

There could be some confusion here: The Zambra on "Music of Montoya and
Ricardo" is by Ricardo, but Paco's most famous one, "Moruna", is based
on a song by Manolo Caracol. The latter is the one of which an abridged
version was published in Ad Rooymans's collection.
