Sad day in the UK

He didn't only champion bands that became mainstream (though that's the
emphasis placed by mainstream media).

It's through Peel's programmes that I got to hear so much of Wildman
Fisher and Ivor Cutler and GTO and Love Sculpture and Jonathan Richman and
the good Captain from Venus and Babe Ruth and Bonzo Dog and some guy
called Bill who played all the instruments on numbers like 'Lay Me Down In
My Bed' and...

He dedicated programmes to Jan Palach and to Nadia Comaneci and to...

With a truly eclectic musical taste and civilised sensitivities, he
obviously just enjoyed listening to music he hadn't heard before and he
gave so many people the opportunity to hear stuff they would not otherwise
have encountered.

Sad, indeed. It's impossible to convey just how sad.
