I'm not a big fan of either band, but I work with a lot of people who
are. They all absolutely love to listen to my copy of The Psychedelic
Furs' "World Outside". Not saying Thom or Chris lifted anything, or
were even influenced by it, but there does seem to be a common vibe
throughout, esp. on the title track & Get A Room.
It came out in 1991 and sounds nothing like Pretty In Pink or Love My
Way, if you weren't a fan of those songs. I'm a big Furs fan and was
struck by how different this CD(their last studio release) was from
the others.
It's out of print I believe, but I see used copies around often. Had
the misfortune of being released at the same time as Nevermind. Ten
years too early; be huge now. Check it out, you might like it.
Oh, and to you Irvine Welsh fans on the RH group: Glue is his best
book, and Juice Terry his best character. :)
Cheers.
p.s. Electioneering & Yellow are truly great songs, and Gwynnie is
what me mate calls a scrawn-hag! |

Maribou Stork Nightmares! That book is truly mental.
And Trainspotting is on Channel 4 tonight... Again... but still
brilliant after the 486th viewing.

Aye.

Welsh himself sez Stork is his best. Prolly his most consistent one,
anyway. But depressing, Jesus! Not hardly light reading, defo.
And for all Euro Welsh fans, pick up "Joe" by Larry Brown, if you want
to experience what it's like for a Yank to try to decipher schemie.
Imagine Stork set in the backwoods trailer parks of the American Deep
South; sorta like Deliverance on acid.... |

Uh, OK, Mr. Diplomat, are YOU going to take an English Composition
class before your next post to a public newsgroup? I love the extra
periods at the end of each sentence; reminds me of Larry King's old
celebrity gossip columns in USA Today.
If you don't like something, why not just simply say so without
turning it into a personal attack?

HOW MANY INSTANCES OF THE LETTER "A" APPEAR IN THE WORD "B*D", WHERE "*"
REPRESENTS AN UNDEFINED QUANTITY OF "A"?
1) 1, "BAD"
2) 5, "BAAAAAAD"
3) oo, "SEGWAY"

5) ALL OF THE ABOVE

Really?! Ya dinnae spraff. Never heard that yin before. On other
groups I always hear people complaining about having to scroll down
past hundreds of unsnipped lines that have long since passed out of
relevance to get to the new stuff. Guess every place is different,
and I also don't use an e-mail reader for newsgroups(gee, can you
guess why?).
Speaking of relevance, my time here is almost up, so to summarize:
Psychedelic Furs - "World Outside", "Forever Now", "Talk, Talk, Talk";
fantastic, five star must owns
Electioneering - Truly great song
Yellow - Truly very good song
Chris 'n Gwynnie - God bless 'em & best of luck with the bairn
Irvine Welsh - "Glue" & "Marabou Stork Nightmares"; truly great books
Joe by Larry Brown - Well, *I* liked it. You might want to check the
library or a used book shop if you're curious about what caused such
violent reactions in others.
'Bye! |
