Saw the Black Crowes for the first time last night, at Lupos, a club
in Providence. Never been a fan of the group per se but they were on
my list as bands to see based on comments from people I respect.
I really enjoyed the show. My question is whether it's the norm for
them to play 3 hour plus 2 set shows and to jam so much, whether the
shows change much from show to show, especially when they play larger
arenas and clubs (they just recently played Tweeter Center that holds
20,000)

Recently, it is the norm for them to do two 90 minutes sets. The songs they
play do change a lot from night to night. If they have an opening band, like
they did for shows they played in the summer (Robert Randolph & Drive By
Truckers opened), they normally play a 2 hour set straight through. The jams
are normal. They come and go, depending on the length of the set. They've
done some shows opening for Tom Petty this year, and those are usually 60-65
minutes and without the long jams.
You can see what they play each night at www.crowesbase.com
Looks like a good set you saw at the Lupo's show. |

Not many bands shake up their setlists as much as the Crowes. At their
five-night stand at the Fillmore last year they played 57 originals and 27
covers, they like to keep it fresh. If you see two shows a month apart
you'll get two radically different setlists. They also aren't afraid to
play offbeat setlists in large venues. |
