"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee! I always remember
that scene from Home Alone. :)

I want mine to be Father Christmas, I really do, but it's not much of a
song. Run Run Rudolph immediately comes to mind, but I'm afraid I'm just
stuck with the old traditional Christmas songs, Blue Christmas and Santa
Claus is Back in Town.

Santa Go Straight to the Ghetto would win over Father Christmas any day.

I don't know if this counts as 'rock 'n' roll', because I've only heard
it sung, never accompanied by instruments. But probably my favourite
Christmas song is the one that goes ...

Oh, grandma got run over by a reindeer
Coming home from our house Christmas Eve
Now, you may say there's no such thing as Santa
But as for me and grandpa, we believe!

*That's* your favorite Christmas song and you've never heard the
original Elmo & Patsy version???

Patient: What about the marrow registry? Maybe they'll find a match.

House: And maybe they'll ride it here on a unicorn.

Definitely *not* rock 'n' roll. I'd call it a particularly poor country-ish
style:

Greg Lake's I Believe In Father Christmas

I'm still amazed at the number of people who talk about this song
having never really listened to the lyrics.

Somehow I can still stand to hear Slade's Merry Christmas, the Pogues
Fairytale Of New York and John & Yoko's Happy Christmas (War Is Over),
but, please, I'd be happy to never ever hear Paul's Wonderful
Christmastime again.

We know perfectly well what the lyrics say...

So I guess you must have missed that great Sax solo in the middle of
the song.

This is something I put together a LONG time ago! Someone
actually found it on the Internet and sent me a note of thanks, so
remind about it, I now send it out to you!

Enjoy! Also, note the link at the bottom of the page to another
Christmas Classic by Barry Gordon "Nuttin' For Christmas"!

Grandma Got Runover was early evidence of PC.

A huge favorite of mine when it came out (still holds up)

But, a key piece of the biting humor was edited by the next Christmas
season.

Added to the line "Should we open up her gifts or send them back" was
the group shouting "Send them back"

Precursor to rock and roll was among my first memories of Christmas
when my Grandparents loaded up a 78 on the four foot tall Victrola
record player/radio combo (a real piece of furniture). It was the
Columbia red label Gene Autry song "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" b/w
"Santa Claus is Coming to Town"
