I picked this up - after a few listens I think it's very good. I think
I like it more than their first two records. It's a nice balance of
the four guys. There are some songs here - not just a lot of fancy
playing for the sake of fancy playing, if you know what I mean. I
wonder if Squire or Steve Howe listen to this sort of stuff. I know
they had Portnoy on the undercard a few years ago - if they watched
him I'd expect they were impressed.
I read that Chris Squire is a fan of Frost - I wonder if he'll come up
with something fresh if they do in fact make a record with Benoit
David. I remember thinking Drama sounded very good when it came out -
I think some of the more exciting bits like Machine Messiah and Tempus
Fugit were sort of anti- Jon Anderson material - they had a chance to
make the sort of noise that Anderson did not want on the records. He
wanted things more gentle and I think the reason why Drama sounded so
good was the fact that they were fired up to make something a little
louder. I'd be happy to buy a record with Benoit David if it has some
bits that sound like something I've not heard before. |
