Welcome to the Neil's Alias Club there DB.
I am Neil Peart.
No you're not.
I am.
Well, it's obvious that whoever doesn't say he is Neil Peart, is Neil Part.
Then you're not saying you're Neil Peart? Or are you saying that I'm not
Neil Peart. Because I really am Neil Peart. Just less wordy.
Galactic mirrored skies with the bonfires of the non-identity of the Peart
course through the tough times that are an aeroplane that conform the vertigo
from the river, crusted and pastried, flying over a silhouetted cool remote
girl (dancing in the eye of the storm, with blueberry filling) drifting
through the discontent myth, creates the joie de vivre as an individual.
Why aah yes to yes, I *am* Pye... |

The Professor (just sign this little FBI form right here...)
Virginia aer you to believe I don't think you're now using the
"Professor" alias?
You're not intelligent, you have false credentials granted by

Why do you refuse to talk about BofA or Lehman? Why do you continue to
pretend RUSH didn't own these and lost them?
The phony image you attempt to sustain isn't filling concert seats,
the shows are barely half full. |

Quote: "Of course, these are parlous times in the music business, so our
time-honored pattern of touring, recording, and touring is no longer the
obvious way to do things. The music world-or at least the business of
it-is very different now, even since 2006, when we began work on Snakes
and Arrows. The importance of "the album" is not what it was, and there
is currently a reversion to a musical climate rather like the 1950s,
when only "the song" matters. Radio, downloads, and "shuffle" settings
are inimical to collected works. Because of that reality, record company
advances that used to pay for album projects are a thing of the past, so
if that was what we wanted to do, wed be on our own."
What a disappointing perspective from Neil.
Do you think Van Gogh would've stopped painting if Theo stopped sending
him advances? Fuck no, he was a real artist.
People like listen to Rush, typically, are a bunch of middle-aged,
nerds. We buy virtually anything with the word "Rush" on it.
That being said. Why not just drop the record companies and make
decently recorded collections of songs that tell real stories (like
PT), and do tours once every 3-5 years? Mix it up & tour with PT and
other cool prog names. Use the Internet as a distribution channel. Get
closer to your fans (Except Libby), be creative, and have fun. The
money will come. Being formulistic is, by definition, a rut.
Why does everything about Rush now have to do with $$$? I think these
guys have lost "The Spirit of Radio" from their youth. After MP, these
guys really lost the "art" in their works.
Sad, I have a feeling that we are near the end.

"reinvention." We have agreed to meet in Los Angeles in November, and
discuss our future. We learned many years ago that when we finish one
long project-like a two-year tour following a year or so of writing and
recording for Snakes and Arrows-we don't make any further plans for a
while. It's good to feel truly free for a time, and to clear your mind
to focus on what you'd really like to do next.

Meh. I think everybody is seeing only one side of the speculation. It
could also mean that Rush is finally going to sack the record company for
everything except distribution. They've been all about money and promotion
since VT signaled their return. It isn't like the record company updates
their web page, holds their contests, or injects their material in to
umpteen movies over the past two years. Rush is pushing hard and enjoying
their recently resurfaced notoriety. They are finally at their most elusive
and least comfortable stage of a long career: They're cool and popular.
Their biggest profit center is in touring and merchandise sales. I wager
they will record at least an EP and that we will hear about a new tour no
later than next a year from now. |
