It would be their last album, unless they had signed a multi-record deal.
That's not to say it is their worst album, it is far from it, as a matter of
fact, but there is nothing on it that radio stations want to play, and
nothing on it to get people to buy it, unless they have the preexisting
condition of being a Rush fan.
There is a difference between good and outstanding, and though Snakes is
good, and all the songs on it are good, none are outstanding. That's why
Working Man is still in the rotations on many rock stations, but nothing
from Snakes is.

The reason Working Man is in rotation is because it is a known commodity just like you'll hear several classic rock songs from a group with a new album instead of the new album. The new album could be outstanding but the station is in fear of playing a new tune because it is an unknown commodity.
Yes there are exceptions but those exceptions are for Mega star groups
like U2 that can put out poop and get airplay. |
