SHM CDs - errors on the labels (or not)?...

Just bought my SHMs of Yes, TAAW, TYA, Fragile and CTTE.

Packaging is very nice indeed however I have a question for anybody who
still has the original vinyl versions of Yes and TYA. The labels used
for the CDs have 'MONO' written on them around the rim where the
copyright blurb resides as well as having STEREO printed in the middle.
TAAW doesn't carry the MONO inscription.

Seeing as the attention to detail is otherwise very fine did the
original labels on the vinyl have mono printed on them? I don't have
access to my originals so can't check. I suppose it depends on which
labels the CD people used as the basis for the SHM artwork.

Anybody?

None of my original LPs has mono written on them, nor are they mono.
What are "SHMs"?

Super High Material CD - have a look here
http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/archive/index.php/t-127465.html

SHM CDs are the latest 'con' - another so-called superior remastering of
stuff that has already been remastered twice sometimes three times.
Emperor's new clothes etc. Some will love them some will see through it
all, myself included.

I've purchased the aforementioned Yes discs as the packaging is very
nice indeed, complete mini-replicas of the original vinyl albums. I
haven't bothered with some of the earlier remasters so I thought I'd try
a handful. I don't find them much if at all different sonically to my
neighbour's Rhino releases. In some cases they sound harsher, in others
maybe a slight improvement but I haven't had a chance to do a full
comparison.

I have others, the worst by far being Rainbow's Difficult To Cure. The
sound on that is so narrow, listening on headphones I was struck
immediately by how un-stereo sounding the disc was but I haven't
compared it to my old vinyl so that could be just as bad but I don't
remember it being that 'narrow' tbh.

The Gentle Giant discs, too, aren't that special but they're a band I
have absolutely nothing left to compare the discs to.

Going back to the 'mono' on the labels of the Yes discs, it must be a
mistake but whoever would have thought of adding that to the labels and
why?

Thank you. Yes, I agree that remasters have varying sound quality (as
a result of the mastering itself), but given that this new disc
material has zero impact on that, I would agree - sounds like a con to
me. Even if a player misses the occasional bit, the ability to hear
that is nil.

I did a one-to-one comparison on the new Beatles remasters with my
vinyl, and I also have a mixed reaction. Some parts sound better, some
harsher. Overall better than the previous CD releases, though, IMO
