Hello ng folks,
Gregarious:
adjective
1. fond of the company of others; sociable.
2. living in flocks or herds, as animals.
3. Botany. growing in open clusters or colonies; not matted together.
4. pertaining to a flock or crowd.
When I was thinking about how to share my thoughts about Greg lately
and the fact that he is dealing with death and dying on a daily basis
I bumped in to that elephant in the room again. I'm so confused.
Greg was not overtly gregarious, yet since his "confession" it's
obvious the company of the Cohen community was important to him.
Hence many want to reach out to him and share their feelings about his
participation here. Good stuff.
Hell, I was hoping to meet him in person to connect with his enigmatic
spirit. His writing impressed me that much.. I know a real human
being was behind that work. But, I want to be true to the reality of
all of it; for his sake too. None of us are saints for heaven's
sake. We've all stepped on toes, come to blows, dropped out/dropped
in, thickened up our skin when we've been rejected or hurt by comments
or attacks to our character, felt left out or ignored, the whole
gregarious experience. (I looked up that word when I was trying to
think of a subject for this post. Now I'm beating it about a bit
much. hehe)
I wouldn't post this in the forum but I've always been comfortable
sharing random thoughts like this in the ng.
Greg's friends and family deserve gentleness over on the forum as they
face this illness he is fighting.
But, as for me, I never could reconcile the real me to the
relationships I've found in the on-line Cohen community. It is the
most difficult part for me. I mean we may not even connect if we met
for coffee or tea. It's a strange condition that I've never figured
out.
So, it is what it is. And it is important for me to see the people
who have been here for years pop up sometimes with a hello or
sometimes a goodbye.
O, heck, I'll never get the hang of this but I'll still hang around.
Take care,
Dar |

Well, I 'confess' that Leonard Cohen's music - well, more accurately, his
words - and the irregular camaraderie of this newsgroup have sustained me
through a very, very dark 4 years or so. I post little, and know none of
you irl, but the community represented by the folk who inhabit aml-c (as
with 2 other special interest groups to which I subscribe) has been a true
beacon for me. These newsgroups are, for me, a lifeline to a real world
beyond the daily grimness that grinds me down. I should stress that they
are not a coward's substitute for real human contact, but more a daily
conscious sense that life is going on out there around the world and, one
day, perhaps I'll be able to be part of it again. If I can't, however, it
doesn't really matter, because the newsgroups have been a brightness in my
life. Thank you, all. |

Ah, Roshi, you must have caught my ng post before I had second
thoughts and removed it.
I thought about it again and figured I was just going through another
one of my "thoughtless" rather than "thoughtful" moments.
But, I completely agree, this ng has served that part of my life too;
"knowing that life is going on out there..."
Thanks to you and everyone here who's affected me by showing up, if
only occasionally. |

Amen! Dar. And Roshi, I, too, have found 'liveliness' here when it
seemed
sadly absent in the rest of my bleak reality. So I echo the gratitude
you
have both expressed... hey, y'all know who you are!
Love, Babz |
