Got my laptop in a continuous boot/shutdown/reboot loop - stating that
install was not successful. Off to the market to get it fixed. $$

I hope I don't go the way of Snoop.

Is that what Apple tells you whenever there's an "upgrade" to your OS?

Been running 7 for about 3 months now. Not a single problem here.
Best upgrade I ever made from Vista Smile

LOL.

Yeah - I've *heard* it's pretty good. :/

I did some research prior to attempting the upgrade (not the clean
install) and I didn't hear of any problems. I also downloaded and ran
the diagnostic to make sure my laptop was - well, worthy I guess.

So I ran with it.

I'll get my laptop back (hopefully) with a clean install and ... well,
here's hoping. (fingers crossed)

Hope it's just an install issue. I did a clean install on my Gateway

laptop and partitioned it so I could dual boot with Ubuntu, which has
given me nothing but problems since I started with it. I need to do
(another) reinstall but simply haven't bothered getting round to it.

I will be the first to admit that Snowy Leopard is far from bug free.
I have had my fair share of annoying quirks since upgrading...
Nothing as severe as a reboot loop but the migration to 64 bit has its
challenges. Besides, who would ever use a guest account anyway :O

You've gotta admit that it's a damn funny commercial. There is an AMR
sighting in that Windows 2 guy Wink

1.- Did the reboot loop mean information loss to you? Because information loss
_is_ the worst that can happen.
2.- I, for one, don't have an account at my parent's, my brother's, or my
in-laws computers, and don't want one. That's what the guest account is
for.

(otoh, OP was asking for it by doing an in-place upgrade instead of a
clean-wipe reinstall... I'll let you guys know how's my Win7 experience in a
few days).

I did a clean install (always do) just incase of any hongovers from
previous piles of shite Smile

This.

I never, never do an "Upgrade". If its time for me to move to a new OS,
then its time for me to wipe the machine.

You'll be fine using the guest account; the data loss only occurs if you
start to log in to the guest account, then suddenly change your mind
and click on another account in the login window instead.

Definitely a jacked up situation, but one that I suspect will be
rectified soon.

Besides, don't your parents back up their data? ;)

Are you kidding? They barely operate the computer as it is. My little brother
hooked them up with the Jobs koolaid when I left the nest because free tech
support was moving away :D

(so now I have to make tech support house calls, though mostly I deflect them
to my little brother with the "sorry, I just know windows and linux, for osx
problems you have to call him" Smile

If I recall correctly, it went well when I installed XP way back when.
I do take some responsibility, but from what I've read, I'm not the only
victim.
