Journey
Redwing
Nightshift
This was another of the $2 Tuesday night shows presenting local bands.
I'd already seen Journey a time or two, I think, but this was a chance to
see them headlining the legendary hall, possibly the first time they
headlined anywhere this big.
This was not the pop band Journey with Steve Perry, this was a few years
pre-Perry. Their singer was Greg Rolie, and with Neal Schon on guitar, they
sounded more like the classic Santana line-up of "Santana III" and
"Caravansarai" than they did the later ka-ka music Journey with Perry. At
this time, I thought they were playing better music than the current Santana
band was. Or at least more accessible.
They kicked ass, as this version of the band always did. Aynsley Dunbar was
the drummer, so you know they were LOUD.
Redwing and Nightshift, I remember little of. Which probably means that they
were just okay. I see that Redwing did make an album or two. They were one
of Timothy B. Schmidt's (Poco; Eagles) first bands, years before this. Musta
been country-rock. |
