*sniggers*  Only cause the new Evile isn't all that much.

If i'm unimpressed I'll be done with this lot.  I saw them in
terrorizer shortly after the debut released, before I had the chance
to hear it and they kept babbling on about mid period sepultura.  I
got past that and gave the debut a shot and liked it enough, but not
as much as GB, Warbringer, Merciless Death.  The semi-dire reviews in
here and the blatant Arise wannabe cover have me concerned but worst
case scenario is buying the cd keeps me from drinking 2 beers so my
liver thanks them just for putting it out.

I would run a mile from anything labelled mid-period Seps.  They
ceased to exist in 1991 with their last, decent release.

I would define mid period as BTR through Chaos AD. Actually listened
to Evile the debut today and liked it more than I remembered. Didn't
get to the new one yet though.

Apparently so, just like there is a third Sabbat record,,*shudders*

Theres a million sabbat records.  They're like the thrash version of
unholy grave.

I was talking about the decent British Sabbat.  The best thrash ever
to come out of this fair isle.  I suspect you knew that.  You cheeky
chappy you.

I'm surprided you don't like Det Som Engang Var.  Regardless of one's
opinion of varg or anything else he's done, this record is in the same
class as Anthems, Vikingligr Veldi, and Somberlain.

The problem is that it has the name Burzum.  I have not heard all of
the catalogue as the bits I have heard I have detest.  So I have just
avoided them.

E.

It's the only album by them I would even consider recommending to
you. Obviously the s/t and aske are too much of that necro sound you
don't like, and from Hvis Lyset Tar Oss forward it got all mellow
ambient pagan folk. Det Som Engang Var however has that kinda melodic
bm sound more like emperor than the earlier more necro norwegian stuff

Have you heard of Corb Lund? (might appeal to your alt-country
sensibilities)

I would say there was a big shift from Arise to Chaos.  Arise is the
last Sep album I will listen to.

Yup it was that big shift that stopped me dead in my tracks. Since
that time I have given cursory listens to their new albums, not
expecting much and they providing it in spades. Such a shame as I
regard Arise as one of the best thrash albums ever.

If it's the band I'm thinking of I was entertained by the last one.
kinda silly DM?

Hate this shit. A few in here were saying they didnt understand them
getting the metalcore slander, so I gave them another shot when one of
my mates posted a youtube clip on facebook, but it still sounds more
like slipknot than suffocation. No thanks.

I have not listed to this yet but I don't see how Nocturnal sounds
anything like Slipknot.

I would say chaos to roots is the 2nd big shift (following the shift
from more BM oriented shit to thrash). Chaos is kind of a
transitional album in that it begins bringing in the tribal nonsense,
but it still thrashes like BTR and Arise more than half the time so
I'm prone to lumping it in there. Obviously modern seps would consist
of "roots and everythign with the black guy singing"

I don`t mind Chaos AD but I haven`t listened to it in ages. Roots I like a
couple of songs off of but overall it`s pretty boring...haven`t liked any of
the post Max stuff I`ve heard at all...nor anything much that Max himself
has done since.

LOL! The fucking Tea Party! Does a more highbrow band name exist?
Unfortunatly, I'm sure it does.
