| Is it just me or do the clues have nothing to to with PF? |

When people first started the puzzle they would have no idea that it
was about The Dark Side of the Moon. They would gradually figure that
out as they completed the grid. I haven't actually see the clues, but
it would be normal for them to have no connection with each other. |

"Many thanks to all for their feedback on this, which was indeed my
debut puzzle in any outlet since one I set for a school magazine some
25 years ago - I'm very glad that people seem to have enjoyed it, and
I am delighted that Derek has even bought a copy of the album as a
result!
In response to one particular piece of feedback I received from
several people, I was unsure as to whether the correct title for the
album was "The Dark Side Of The Moon" or just "Dark Side Of The Moon".
Chambers Biographical and ODE both quote it without the definite
article, and the various CD pressings I have seem not to agree with
each other, but I now have a definitive answer. I had to get
permission to use the theme from Pink Floyd's management, and Paul
Loasby, the manager of David Gilmour, stipulated as a condition of
publication that the definite article at the start is a part of the
title. So to those who assured me I'd got it wrong, I'm afraid that
you're going to need to retag your MP3 collections!
I'd like to thank Paul Loasby for allowing me to use the theme; I'd
like to thank Chris L for test-solving (and am very sorry that he
slipped up as a result) and I'd particularly like to thank John
Grimshaw, who was extremely helpful, which I suspect was due to him
being as much of a Floyd fan as I am...
.....The editors of the crossword were concerned that the final grid
bore a close enough resemblance to the front cover of the album to be
a potential violation of copyright, due to features like the missing
indigo. They therefore wanted reassurance from the copyright holder
that this wouldn't be an issue - more, I think, from concern about
reproducing the solution grid than about the puzzle itself.
So it wasn't the theme itself for which I had to get permission, but
the right to represent the cover in the solution. Apologies for the
oversimplification of this in my previous post! I should add that
getting permission was the easy part - finding and contacting the
relevant people who could give it to me was somewhat tricky..." |
