okay certainly not close to their best work. Hell I had to make sure it
was called Christ Illusion and not God Illusion shows you how much I
like the album. I really like the new songs I've heard though so maybe

i liked Pantera alot(became a fan when VdoP came out) now, i pull those
cd's out a few x's a year(i spun their last two last month).

I do generally spin some Pantera about once a year, but I also do the
same for those bands I don't like but the denizens of AMS feel I aught
to like. JP, Anthrax (Belladonna Era) and Megadeth, though saying
that I do like JP a great deal more than the other two.

I`ve been listening to RiB quite regularly for 23 years, there`s no way it`s
still going to pull 3-4 listens a week! Checking lastfm I`ve played it 7
times this year which I think is pretty good for an album I first heard so
long ago. For the record ( and because I quite like arsing about with
lastfm! )

While I agree with you for the most part above, there is something to
be said for changing tastes.

For example, I like certain types of "world music" (god I hate that
term) a lot more than as a teenager when I'd dismiss all of that as
rubbish. Conversely, I only really like a handful of the traditional
metal bands I grew up with ... the rest aren't *bad* per se, I just
rate the cream of other genres much higher.

Or lets look at classics. I have only listened to RiB once this
year. I still think it's one of the best albums ever. Going by your
logic, the best albums ever made are constantly changing dependent on
what's flavour of the month. Or my list for album of the decade,

Very easily.  I listen to it. I will compare it to the bands previous
albums (if any).  I'll compare it the similar bands.  I'll see if I
enjoy the music.  Most new things will tail off in listens eventually
as I move on to more new things.  However if I think an album is good,
it remains good when I come back to it for a re-listen.

Matter of fact one of the albums that's been getting a lot of plays
the past month or so is Kansas-Masque, (1975).

anymore. There are many 10 year old albums I liked alot, and still do.
