Maybe because I like listening to older stuff I just find the notion a
tad bizarre.  If I look at the bands I have played the most in the
last 12 months, you might see a telling trend.

1) Iron Maiden
2) Metallica
3) Black Sabbath
4) Led Zeppelin
5) Cradle of Filth
6) Pink Floyd
7) Gun's N Roses
Cool The Rolling Stones
9) Thin Lizzy
10) Kreator

E.

Maybe it is bizare, but of these bands I haven't listened to them
much the past year. Not their older albums anyway. Some of them I'd
never really play. But in all fairness, some of them are among the top
10 of bands I've listened to the most all my life.
I get a little burn out on some of them, and then don't listen for a
long time.

Yeah I think I called it a 7 earlier somewhere. I do think it`s a decent
album as I said, just nowhere near the brilliance of their previous 10
releases. Tom pointed out I gave it 15 listens so I can`t think it`s a good
album...if I actually thought it bad I can assure you it would have got
nowhere near 15!!

How often have you listened to the older albums, 50-100 times each?
Or is it more. How many more listens do you think you're going to give
to Vertebrae the rest of this year?

Tom

Is it none?

Now lets watch Tom pour over your words to try and some how claim it's
bad.

Give up already?

It's not as good as the other three Enslaved albums I have. For
whatever that's worth.

Tom

Not much.

Here are my top ten favorite bands I would say I like all of these bands
equally on level or another I know most of these bands have released some
crap albums but this is more an overall list. It was hard as hell keeping
this down to ten bands.

Iron Maiden
Slayer
Megadeth
Overkill
Metallica
Iced Earth
Nevermore
Black Sabbath
Testament
Judas Priest

Nice topic:

Maiden
Slayer
Testament
Megadeth

Some of the new Saxon is rather good. Tom that equates to 7.867747475
listens.

I`ve only listened to Vertebrae 3 times this year...I`ll probably give it at
least one more spin before the year`s out. For sure I go back to older
Enslaved albums more often as I prefer them but if I thought the new one was
*bad* I`d never play it again...nor, as said, would it have got 15 listens.

The bottom line is, whatever you think or try to convince me, Enslaved have
released 10 albums that I like...9 of which I think are awesome, 10 if you
include the 29 minute long EP!!!

You found me out. I don't care to speak for the majority. I just
think for me, there's not a chance I'm going to like every album by
any band who's recorded 10 or more albums.

Why though? If a band stays pretty consistent with their sound and it`s a
sound you like...why wouldn`t you like them all? I can see how you may feel
they`re running out of ideas or recycling themselves but "not like" them?

I look at what you said about Vader, and this is what I mean.

Quote:
Going back to what I said on another thread about Vader...I do think they`re
a tad redundant now ( in that they haven`t had a new idea in 15 years! ) but
I do enjoy listening to all of their albums if they`re on.

If they keep doing the same sort of thing over and over again, I
just sort of get bored with them. With Vader, I bought one full length
album. I don't dislike any one song, but think it's just too much to
listen to end to end.
I mean if we talk about JP albums, I don't like PoE (save for a
couple songs) or Turbo. But like a lot of their albums. It might even
be 10 of them. They didn't make it to ten albums before doing a
clunker. That's all I am saying.

I`m enitrely ambivalent towards them. Neither offend me but I wouldn`t
choose to listen to them nor care if I never heard them again.

Normally in threads like these I get tempted to listen to the band/
album in question. However in this case I just haven't that desire.

I do generally spin some Pantera about once a year, but I also do the
same for those bands I don't like but the denizens of AMS feel I aught
to like. JP, Anthrax (Belladonna Era) and Megadeth, though saying
that I do like JP a great deal more than the other two.

Yes but it's shouldn't be the only deciding factor when it comes to
rating an album.  I keep wondering how you know exactly how many
listens you give each album.  Do you keep extensive notes?

No, just a general guess.

Quote:
How Tom thinks

1-5 listens - "I can't rate this album yet"

I like to listen to an album at least three times before attempting
rating it. It's only fair.

Quote:
6-10 listens - "I like this album, it's good"

11-15 listens - "I am getting bored, it's a bad album"

If previous albums by said band got 40-50-75 listens, then yes.

I guess I'm the easy target.

Yup.  You're so up tight it's as though someone has shoved a stick up
your arse.

Someone has to be all arsey.
