You think Freddie Mercury was a "lesser"" vocalist then Brian Johnson??? Or
do you just mean non metal or something?

I felt the same way. How can anyone thing Mercury a lessor singer
than Brian Johnson.

Tom

1. Former San Diego Padres theme song: Hell's Bells.
2. One of two AC/DC songs in Dukes of Hazzard movie: Shoot To Thrill
3. Surprise song in Iron Man movie: Back in Black
4. Song not included in Black Hawk Down: Hell's Bells (captured U.S.
soldier heard the song playing, ran outside, and was rescued)
5. Song most requested in 1990: Moneytalks
6. In 1990, the band had to kind of change the setlist since the
crowd was a little too excited due to someone being crushed to death.
7. Almost met about 3 years ago at Trump Marina in Atlantic City
during the Classic Rock Cares show which included the original singer
from Grank Funk Railroad performing -- did you ever get within 10 feet
of Freddie Mercury BEFORE a show?
8. Other fundraising charity shows such as for Florida.

All this means absolutely nothing. Mercury will always be 1000 times
the singer that Johnson is, there is just no comparison whatsoever.
Mercury could sing anything while Johnson's voice sounds like someone
is forcing him to sing and he is constipated Smile

I love Brian Johnson's vocals (much more than Scott's, for example),
and can completely relate to someone who would prefer them over the
obviously more technically proficient Mercury.

Having said that, Queen destroys AC/DC in every conceivable way ;)

This is all completely irrelevant to the question at hand IMO. Freddie
Mercury had one of the most outstanding voices in the history of rock music.
He could turn his hand to virtually any style. Brian Johnson has an OK voice
for the limited style within which ACDC play but even then it can hardly be
described as a great vocal. That ACDC songs appeared in Dukes of Hazzard
soundtracks or whatever is a moot point ( there were plenty of Queen songs
that appeared in movie soundtracks anyway ). From a purely technical point
of view it`s laughable to suggest that Johnson was even on the same page as
Mercury.

I also prefer Johnson's voice to Scott's, But I will take anything
Queen and Freddie recorded over anything ACDC has ever done.

I don't get this.. Are you saying because AC/DC is more popular than
Queen that Johnson is a better singer than Mercury? I don't agree
that popularity and talent always go hand and hand.

I can see how you could prefer Brian Johnson to Mercury, because
everyone has different taste. Personally I prefer Bon Scott to
Johnson, although I don't rate either of them anywhere near Mercury.

When I look at the recent thread lists on my front page I can see 7 JP
related threads. When I look at AMS, I see two on topic threads and
one of those is about one of the new tracks being released. You guys
are way more on-topic, or at least have more JP related threads.
Quite scary.
Off-topic discussions keep our groups going and why NG's of more
commercially successful bands like Metallica and Maiden have died out.

scary or not we actually LIKE Judas Priest. Sure, it's not all we

By choice or through mainstream media? Perhaps things are different over
your side of the pond. Queen are probably the most played band on radio and
tv in the UK alongside The Beatles ( Queen`s Greatest Hits is the best
selling album of all time in the UK...no ACDC album is in the top 50...and
you`d pretty much *never* heard ACDC on mainstream radio here ).

When is the last time you heard about Queen postponing a show?

I`ve lost track of what this current incarnation of Queen is up to ( the one
with 2 original members that occasionally plays big arena shows with a
different singer ) but Queen as an ongoing project ceased to be about 17
years ago when Freddie Mercury died. They generally used to play huge
stadium shows in their last 5-6 years and I don`t remember them being famous
for cancelling shows or anything...but then I never did see them live.

They were touring with Paul Rodgers and even recorded an album with
him, under the moniker of Queen and Paul Rodgers. It was quite
forgettable. Recently their collaboration with Rodgers has come to
end, and I haven't seen anything since. Not that I am avid follower
of May and Co's every activity.

Thank God that it came to an end cause Rogers was butchering the Queen
songs. I also agree that the studio collaboration was very
forgettable. Does anyone know who played bass while they were Queen
and Paul Rogers cause I know that John Deacon refused to do it. He
stated in an interview a while back that he didn't think it was
appropriate.
