Nice review. Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow is my favourite Rainbow album but
the reason for that is that it's NOT really heavy, it's got more shades to
it than Rising (which was their heavy rock masterpiece).

I think you could say that Rainbow in 1976 were heavier that Purple were in
1976, but not if you look at the entire careers of each band as a whole then
the comparison isn't true.

I think it's a quite varied album, though the review says it
isnt' (???) I think people interpret 'heavy' in different ways. To me,
Man On a Silver Mountain is really heavy. Stomping riffs like that
were what was heavy but with more noisy metal it often isn't
considered heavy these days.
Temple of the King is a lovely ballad followed by a straight ahead
rocker which the reviewer doesn't seem to like:-
"If You Don't Like Rock N'Roll - just that. A 1950s Rock N'Roll with
all the clichés and none of the grit - much like uncountable ELF
numbers. It becomes evident why Dio had no success back in late 1950s
and 1960s - he is too earnest, as if Rock N'Roll parties were a
growing pain. Blackmore (a studio musician across the 1960s) plays
professionally. But the only noticeable thing here is Mickey Soule's
boogie piano. "
It's pretty a good track in classic rock n roll mold like Whitesnake's
Black n Blue.

At the end of the review to says this is good to listen whilstgoing to
sleep - yeah, right!

I'm with Dio and Dave. It's my favourite Rainbow album, but I say it's
got a lot of heavy and a good variety.
