Not looking forward to only mp-3 releases.
I prefer buying the complete package, with cover art printed on paper/
booklet. After looking at a lot of gate-fold 12" record sleeves, I
still feel short-changed with a 4.75"x4.75" CD booklet. I listen to a
lot of mp3s but there is a difference in quality from mp3s to a 1st
generation cd, and even more still with a cd versus vinyl, although
you hear the occasional click and pop on vinyl. I look at mp3s as a
viable alternative format, but I'd hate to see it become the
standard.
Sorry to say, but that's probably going to happen. I think soon only
major bands that move a lot of CD's at retail will be still issuing
them. Some band who sells 300 the first week out probably would be
better off just selling them as downloads. No cost of making the CD
master and the minimum order and so on.
Tom
Not to say I like that idea, just that's the reality. |

A sad fact of reality. I buy as much stuff on cd and vinyl as I can
afford, I will do anything I can to fight the change to mp3. Don't get
me wrong I like mp3, it's useful, easy and handy, but if I want to
blast some tunes at home, then I'll fire up my sound system, or if I'm
working in a club DJing then I'll use cd's as much as I can. |

How much longer you think the clubs will be able to hold out in this
sort of economy. I mean, it's looking really bad right now.

The strip club I work at uses an mp3 system with a large hard drive
(1TB) with over 10000 songs stored on it. Before each girls turn comes
up she goes into the booth picks the 4 to 5 songs she will dance to
and enters them into the sequence and they are ready for her when its
her turn. When the owner (Jonathan) installed this system he was able
to let go of the DJ's that he used and saved himself their salaries.
When a new girl is up the door man just leans into the microphone and
announces the her name. Jonathan said that this move saved him over
$600 a week in DJ salaries and expenses. So not only are Cd's becoming
useless with the digital age, so are jobs. |
