Polka Today! originators Matt & Elaine Bonowitz of Staten Island, NY.
Champion Polka dancers appear on America’s Got Talent on NBC on
Tuesday, June 17th. The #1 rated summer series in America is hosted by
Jerry Springer with celebrity judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osborne, and
David Hasselhoff. Matt & Elaine beat out over 25,000 contestants to
take their hi-energy Polka Today! style of dance to new levels by
blending country, swing, & ballroom dancing with the POLKA and adding
flashy and appealing costuming and choreography as seen on the many
dance shows on television today. The dynamic duo dance to "Walking on
Sunshine" from the Polka's For Charity CD and sung by female vocalist
Gennarose of the Jimmy Sturr Orchestra. The new approach is sure to
turn the heads of audiences to Polka Today! America, You Decide.

It's great to see you made the cut. We have watched the show and hope
the Judges give you a fair shake. Polka Music has been made a joke on
television venues for some time. Remember the soda party commercial.
We know you will give it your best shot and wish you the good luck.

The promotion of Polka is great and I applaud these two promoters.

What worries me is this show seems more about 'entertainment'
than valid talent identification.

Looking at the cast of 'judges', this show has the characteristics
of 'The Gong Show'.

This is what we've all been waiting for. Polka music and two very
talented people (dancers in this case) get ( busted their tails ) to
get on the biggest summer show out there on network TV. This is
really big news. We should all be emailing this note to every friend
we have on a list to get them to watch, download, comment or whatever
on this (for Polka music) event. This is major folks!!!!! Yes, I'm
excited that they used a song from my CD, but it could just as well
been another band. It will be great if they go forward and
interesting to see if they don't - why the judges thought they
shouldn't. Maybe if enough people watch and comment we will have our
minute in the sun this time and maybe two minutes the next time.
Congrats to Matt and Elaine - great work and I am honored that they
used a song ( Walking on Sunshine ) from my CD Let's Get This Party
Started!. As I said in the beginning this is what we wanted, what
will we do about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe the poster are the Polka Today! originators Matt & Elaine
Bonowitz.

Seems like a bit of self-promotion going on, which is ok, just be up
front about it. I had watched the program, as well and no sighting of
the polka duo.
I also read the pieces in multiple Polish-American and local
newspapers. It is understandable that they wanted their friends and
fans to know and watch, but unfortunately their appearance did not
air. It does, however make me question whether they went on to the
next round in Las Vegas.

Well we finally saw the episode with Matt & Elaine last night.
They did a "nice" polka job but unfortunately nothing too special or
extreme that could wow the crowd.
Matt & Elaine obviously knew how badly the judges panned them and how
badly the live audience reacted, yet they still promoted this
appearance.
That was very gutsy on their part and I commend them for it. If I had
performed on such a show with that reaction, I would have probably
tried to hide it so the fewest number of people would see it.

I missed the episode, but will check my DVR recording. I think the
episode was recorded live, but may be wrong.

On the internet today:

America's Got Talent 3: Episode 4 Recap

Delivery driver Matt Bonowitz and his wife Elaine claim to be the
number one polka dancers in the world. They call their act Polka Today
and proceed to do a poor routine that gets them three buzzes from the
judges within seconds. After the judges ridicule them, Polka Today are
sent on their way.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again...getting young people
involved in polka music is not easy....The only way to get them to
appreciate the good time we have is to literally drag them to a
dance. I'm almost 23 yrs old and have been going to polka dances my
whole life. Getting my friends to go with me has always been
torture. To this day, I can count on one hand how many friends I've
managed to get to a dance or festival. Those that came had a great
time....getting my other friends to believe it is a good time just
doesn't happen...Now with the young people already involved, their act
isn't going to change how we feel about polka....although, I must say
I found it hard to watch....It just wasn't good at all. Friends of
mine watched it with me and again they were back to making fun of
polka. The outfits didn't help much either. How many of you have
gone to a polka dance and seen people wearing that.....aside from
those that stick out like weeds?! Basically, I've seen people dance
much better than that and present themselves much better than
that.....it was just bad...

From TV SQUAD.COM:
Matt & Elaine, Polka dancers - What was that? When you hear before an
act that the performers created something, it's pretty much a given
that the act will be painful to watch. Matt and Elaine's dancing was,
as Sharon said, silly. The Hoff said it best: "It looked like to me
you were in the blender."

Excerpt from EW.com:

'America's Got Talent' recap: Karate trumps Polka

...Instead, we'll concentrate on Matt and Elaine Bonowitz from Staten
Island, who call themselves "Polka Today" and claim to do for their
genre what Michael Flatley did for Irish stepping. Let that settle in
for a second. Michael Flatley. Polka. You got it? Okay, good. Now add
a polka cover of “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves. Watch
their performance, too, if you dare, but keep in mind you won't be
able to press the big red X (with sound effect) the way the judges do.

What about that steely, plastic smile of Matt's to match his pompous
attitude... a bit frightening!
