I notice it's been out for a day or two to download - will it sell
enough to chart this week?

It won't be eligible - there has to be a physical product available for
the digital variant to chart.

AFAIK, that rule was disposed off alone with the archaic ones for the
single chart, at the start of this year?

Checking...

You're right! What numbskull at the OCC thought retaining that
requirement was a good idea? :(

Quite apart from the specific example in the thread title, there must be
a lot of unsigned bands who would benefit from the scrapping of this
rule.

For dealers? It means that all new chart eligible releases still have
to be released on CD etc.

They got past that for singles, so I see no reason albums would be
different.

Besides, at the current sales levels, download-only albums aren't going
to be anywhere near the top 75.

Albums are a different matter - singles sales for last year were about
12m compared to about 180m for albums.

Perhaps dealers just don't want to allow ANY concessions - every time
they did for singles, the labels wanted more almost immediately.

I assume you refer just to physical singles saes, here?

In which case, I'd suggest they look up the term 'Luddite' in the
dictionary... Smile

I think labels are not daft enough to push dealers too hard - in the US
so many retailers have stopped stocking albums, or at least more than
just the big albums, that labels are falling over themselves to be nice
to retailers...
