has this ever happen once. I have now had my share of listen and I must say
that not one single track on RCM gives med that good feeling I allways get
at least from one track every time they release new material. Even Liberty,
pop trash and medland have one or more tracks that hit me. Violence of
summer, venice, first impression, someone else, lava lamp, starting to
remember, the sun, who do you think you are?, out of my mind and silva halo.
But RCM gives me not one.
And to put it im Milts own words: I don`t give a fcuk what the rest of you
think. It is an bad album.
Thanx

I hear you Norwway. On every Duran Duran album there are classic songs that
you put on repeat and make you want to sing along. Some are so beautiful
you can feel the song in your heart. Don't tell me it's a sentimentality
thing, because songs like What Happens Tomorrow and Still Breathing did this
for me from Astronaut, so it has nothing to do with WHEN the album came out,
but WHAT is on the album.
Some of the songs on Red Carpet Massacre are okay, but I understand exactly
what you mean that none of them "hit" you. After I take it out of my car I
doubt I will ever listen to it again. She's Too Much is a nice song,
Falling Down is listenable, and Boxful O' Honey showed promise, but none of
them are going to be marching to the top of a Duran Duran Greatest Hits
compilation CD anytime soon. I really hope after the tour they get back in
the studio and release a real Duran Duran album that isn't written around
basslines and beats invented by other producers. If you don't believe me
read the new Bass Player Magazine where John tells how on most tracks Nate
initially laid down the bass parts and he (John) had to learn to play with
and around them.
The band took a gamble and made an album using a completely different
songwriting process and a different sound. They have always liked to
experiment from album to album, and it could have been a masterstroke.
Unfortunately for some fans it has been a master stuff-up.
So yes RCM is a dud by Duran's high standards, but I still think it could
sell okay if Epic release and promote Nite Runner properly. Nite Runner is
not the best song on the album, but it is decent and the only one that
younger kids or Justin Timberlake fans could get into.
I'm hoping Nite Runner picks the album up and I can't wait to see them play
in March, but outside this I wait for the next album so I can pretend that
Red Carpet Massacre never happened.

I have say I wasn't blown away by RCM. Some of the songs are growing
on me. I think Nite-Runner should have been released first. And I do
like some of the song better live in concert. I really enjoyed the
show Friday night. I wish they performed more songs from the first
album like "Careless Memories" and "Friends of Mine". but it was a
radio show and I'm surprised they did so many songs from RCM and not
more hits. Happy holidays! |

From what I have heard the songs from Red Carpet Massacre are definitely
better live than on the album.

as I said in my earlier post, the guys are at their best when they are
creating, not imitating. The best song on the album is the b-side Cry baby
Cary and the fact that it was left off the album says a lot about their
musical judgment.

Same thing here. This is the first time in 25 years that I'm NOT bying a DD
album.
Just listening to the samples was enough for me. =(
This is just too much DuRhodes DuRhodes...
I hope they soon drop the synthetic drum beats and get Nick's synthesizer
parts as **background** sounds, not as the lead instrument...

Hi there,I just uploaded a brand new song (well, actually,I recorded
it
2 years ago , this time one of the most heavily new wave-
influenced
of my "repertoire"...it's called "The World Is On Fire",it's got some
Duran Duran and The Killers' touches,I think!
Hope you enjoy it!
And listen to the other two tracks,as well(the psychedelic-post-punk-
symphonic-power-metal trashy tune"Formerly Known As The King"and the
jazzy-eastern-prog ballad "Nothing To Believe In")and let me know
what
you think!
cheers from Rome
Mario
http://www.myspace.com/sleepdriver1984
PS anyway to me the best song off the new DD album is DEFINITELY last
man standing,it reminds me so much of that masterpiece that The
Chauffeur is, or the Arcadia album!BRILLIANT! |

Before Red Carpet Massacre was released Klaus had plenty of samples of the
songs at http://duranduran.no/cms/
The funny thing is that I hated all the samples/snippets I heard from the
album except Box Full O' Honey, but still bought the Deluxe version of RCM
the day it came out anyway.
Oh well, I'm sure I'll enjoy their next album. You can't please all the
fans all the time.

I have never posted here before, but decided to come out of my shell for
this. I will say that I agree that RCM is not what I consider to be DD's
finest work, but after listening to it for 20-30 times, I have learned to
like almost all the songs except the first two. Box Full 'o Honey is by far
and away the best of the bunch for me. I am glad they did at least one song
like that. It will never get airplay, but it is a fine piece of musical
genius. I also think Cry Baby Cry is one of the better songs to. I don't
understand their logic of omitting it from the release.
I hope the other album that they recorded but did not release comes out
soon. I would expect it to have an Astronaut feel. After hearing this RCM
album, I have to think that Andy Taylor was justified in leaving the band,
afterall, the guitar is so far in the background that it hardly can be
heard.

Because it doesn't fit in with the rest of the album; Cry Baby Cry is
a song that sounds 20 years old. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but if
they'd come out with an album full of tracks like that they would have
been criticised for redoing old stuff.

I'd be very interested in hearing it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the band keep saying that almost
all of the RCM tracks were written after Andy had gone?
In the interview Simon did that someone posted a link to he was
talking about the album and how the record company was saying, "we
hear the second and third singles, but we don't hear a first one". I
think it's time that record companies realised Duran Duran are not a
singles band any more. It's practically imposible for DD to get to #1
in any singles chart these days, so why worry about it? The live shows
in particular and the albums are far more important anyway. |
