Trying to find the Title for this movie for ages now. Sort of
comedy-drama.

Plot basically has Auteuil's character's wife [with kids] leave him,
as he's so tied up with work? Then he loses his job? can't beleive his
Mrs. left, begins searching, and somehow teams up with this, little
round, softly spoken street guy with dark curly hair [balding], who's
very clingy. This character won't leave Auteuil alone??? At some point
he starts his own practice, and employes this street guy as
receptionist. Street guy has simple outlook on life. Most of the
comedy is derived from the dynamic between these two contrasting
characters, while the drama is the devastated Autueil trying to find
where his Mrs. went.

At a latter point in the film, both men visit Auteuil's Parents place,
to find to his shock that 'Mum' has left 'Dad' for a younger guy and
is happier than ever. His sister shows up too I think - she's a bit
bitter?, bit dysfunctional family?

The film concludes with Auteuil's character finally returning home. In
despair, but as a changed man - he's had to re-evaluate his life's
priorities. He reads a note?? and then his wife walks over, out of the
shadows - into his arms?
- The feel good bit.

What is this frickin' movie called? really enjoyed it - once. It was
French subtitled into English. Saw it in Australia, on SBS. It must
have been mid to late 90's, and guess by the slick production, it had
been made recently, maybe early 90's.

Have I even got the right actor? I'm 99.9% sure it was Auteuil, but on
looking through fan websites, databases and everything, I can't find
one movie plot that sounds right, with his name in it

You'd have my eternal gratitude if anyone out there can help!

V big Cheers!
Ben.

It's called "La crise", directed by Coline Serreau in 1992:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0104025/

No wonder you couldn't find it, the main character is not played by
Daniel Auteuil but by Vincent Lindon.
