BLOODLINE overtly exploits the scumbled fiction of THE DAVINCI CODE by
presenting itself out front as a documentary. Their real goals are
quite transparent: to make is make a handsome sum by again stirring up
the old controversies previously heated with Brown's novel and Howard's
movie. And if the movie was cheap enough, it COULD earn the filmmakers
a profit from curiosity seekers and a small group of earnest kooks
who'll believe anything. But it looks contrived to me, a Blair
Witch-style trick that becomes obvious once the "interviews" start.
Those people look like amateur actors. It gets more obvious when what
passes for a plot shows the "investigator" worrying that his questions
have stirred the invisible secular powers against him. As entertaining
as this stuff can be sometimes, I think this market has been thoroughly
plumbed.
