Pre-film lecture by Richard Meyer
In partnership with PBS Television station WNED, the ROM presents 'The
Goddess' one of the greatest silent films of all time. Produced in Shanghai
in 1934, star Ruan Ling-Yu plays a prostitute who uses her earnings to
support and educate her son. The title of the film "The Goddess" was the
Shanghai way of describing a woman who sells her body.
